Any idea which WD hitch is a better ?

My son has bought some air horns, Grover or Hadley I can't remember which one but he has a questions. He has along trumpet and a short one. He needs to get compressor and a tank. He is also looking for some installation locations. He has a 2005 or 2006 Ram diesel. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

szumigalas,

I have my horns bolted to the front bumper brace on the passenger side. My tank, a rather large 10 gallon model, is in the bed ( I also have a topper). They are controlled by a lanyard valve mounted on the A-pillar. No electronics and no compressor. I air the tank up to @110 PSI once a month or so. If I don't use any air for anything else, I have fittings on it so I an hook up a hose, I easily get a month's worth of "air time". :)

Try to find a 12V electric air solenoid if you want to put it on a normal flip/toggle switch. www.ricksontruck.com is the only place I really know of to get one, but I'm about to start a thread to see if anybody else knows because my 2nd one just went out.

I have a manual valve like Scott "bigpapa", although I haven't figured out when I would use it yet. I have to many wires going down behind my a-pillar to put it there.

I originally had a Grover compressor. Not the best option. I now use the compressor out of an 85 Caddy (used for their air ride suspension). No maintenance and reliable. I think a few other mid 80 GMs used the same compressor. My 2 gallon air tank is mounted to the frame under the cab.

I just ordered some horns and a compressor kit from Rickson. Should get here any day now. I'll let you know what I think once it gets here.

The Grover horns and the Caddy pump. If you need it I can draw out a wire diagram for my installation.

Graingers has 12v solenoid valves. I put one on my truck for the valet switch. It has 1/8" npt thread, IIRC some have 1/4" npt also.

I mounted my two Freightliner 22" and 24" under the driver's and passengers rocker/frame panels above my running board brackets. The tank is mounted in the area between the passengers side bed skin and inner rail on the bed cross members. The pump and control valves are mounted along the passenger's rocker panel. They are controlled by a push button switch on the knee panel left of the steering wheel. Here is what some of it looks like:

Well, it can also depend on what he wants to do with the system? Anything more than just run the horns? If not, the Viair 12v compressors are quite popular. Use this search on Ebay to find them: http://search.ebay.com/viair-compressor

Personally, I also wanted to be able to run air tools of my setup, so I bought a little more expensive pump, the Air Zenith AZ-OB1. They move about double the CFM than the Viair's do, but they are also almost $75 more expenive. http://search.ebay.com/air-zenith-compressor

I went with a polished stainless 5 gal tank from Hornblasters. Their website still shows it at $115, but when I ordered (about a year ago), they told me on the phone that they were only $85. http://www.hornblasters.com/products/details.php?item=TA0504-10

Another option is to install a PacBrake exhaust brake. It comes with an air pump and a small air tank that will run most horns for short periods...
