Thanks for the info guys. I didn't realize they were Odysseys. I am familiar with them, and they are top notch. I sell Deka powersports batteries, and install their AGMs in all my vehicles as the originals need replaced. I know many of the Die Hards are now made by Deka, as Sears got fed up with their previous supplier's drooping quality.

I bookmarked the above Sears link, and been checking it. It just dropped from $200+ to now $183. 99 and looks like there's another discount if you spend $400 online.

Pardon the ignorance, but what maked these platunium batteries so desirable?
X2. Nothing wrong with buying the best, but usually there has to be some advantage or payback, especially at twice the price. And AGM batteries do have some drawbacks.

Automotive charging systems for flooded lead acid often have a fixed float voltage setting of 14. 40V (2. 40V/cell), and a direct replacement with a sealed unit could spell trouble by exposing the battery to undue overcharge on a long drive.
AGM and other sealed batteries do not like heat and should be installed away from the engine compartment. Manufacturers recommend halting charge if the battery core reaches 49°C (120°F).

Are all the third gen charging systems programmed to work with AGM batteries and will not over charge them? (I couldn't find any reference to the charging voltage range in the 05 FSM, it is referenced only as a "calibrated value" in the ECM)

Stock "flooded lead acid" batteries have started my truck over 11,000 times and even at -14F without it being plugged in. I often have to drive on pot holed dirt roads so they get their share of vibration and shocks. Stock batteries have proven sufficient to the task so far, so what will better battery performance really do?

Other than maybe they will last longer, under normal use is there any real world advantage to these $$$ batteries which could help justify their extra cost ?

Some AGM's like lower voltage, some like more.

The CR's run pretty high voltage, based on battery temp, but it doesn't appear to effect the batteries. At least not yet.

They do have 24% more CCA's, and it's VERY apparent on cold days. The motor spins and lights much faster and easier. I also started my truck on sup -10° days with the stock batteries, the new ones just do it better.
