Oh will it is spring in IL.

I did a two year stint as public works director ( I thought it would never end) for our town. The last year I was there we got two feet of heavy wet snow on May 7th. It was, shall we say, unpleasant.

This is the best spring weather that we have had in PA in many years. A little rain today and tonight forecast, but nothing to complain about. We've such lousy springs the last few years, this is a great change of pace.

I'd of gladly traded you all. We had a nasty line of storms push through late afternoon that left over 3" of rain. Rumor has it there were two twisters that touched down in our county. One confirmed in Richland that pretty well leveled part of a town. The winds took down a massive elm right up the road and had the entire road blocked. We went down and cut it up and pushed it back into the field to open things back up. I have to admit I got a bit nostalgic cutting that ol girl up. It was the only tree along the edge of a large field, perched atop a small rolling hill. Its been somewhat of a land mark for as long as I can remember.

We were very lucky here. That line came through at around 10:00 PM . Some wind and lightning, but nothing severe.

Will I woke up this morning to O'Hare airport reporting that we had 5.4 inches of snow yesterday. Both airport (Midway 200 and O'Hare 1,000) said that 1200 flights were cancelled Sunday and another 200 had already been cancelled today at O'Hare. With black ice being reported on the interstate and highways in the local area.
Oh will another spring day in Chicago.

That’s a shocking revelation! We go through this almost every year as we start to tear down the snow equipment to fix em all summer. One time we had to throw everything back together to battle a late snow, they never had to go out. It was a good thing because nothing had hub seals as they didn’t come in yet.

We had that line of storms come through pre dawn. Torrential rain and a 5 minute hurricane.

I took the position at the request of an acquaintance who was a town council member. The combination of a total lack of knowledge of road building and maint on the part of the majority of the council members along with small town politics drove me to the brink of insanity. A good example is the fact that they denied my budget request for $7500 for plowing contractors but gave the new director money for a new truck and the hiring of another full time employee who had connections with the council. That amounted to approx $90K for the truck, plow, and sander plus $45K for the employee. Do you wonder why I couldn’t wait to get out?

Absolutely. That is not a job you jump right into. You have to warm up to it, in more way than one. Ain’t politics grand?

It is wholesale through out the US today. Most of the people who want to run for office today have no real work experience or how things are accomplished. Yes they are for the most part college educated, but how does a humanity degree help you in building or maintaining infrastructure that is needed.

It’s worse than that. Our town council President retired as the head of the english Dept of a nearby school district. A few years ago we had a big town go around about issuing concealed carry permits. It made statewide news and I listened to him on a talk radio program. He stated, and I quote, “ I don’t see any difference between May Issue and Shall Issue”. This from the head of a high school English Dept.

When asked about her students desire to learn, I had a high school english teacher cross-breed initiative and incentive and come up with incentative.

Will we have had nothing but rain for the last week as of Wednesday 1 May 2019 we had in Oswego over 7" of rain. It is pouring right now and my rain gage is showing an 1" right now. All of the surrounding rivers and creeks are out of their banks. The Mississippi has flooded the downtown of Davenport IA when a temporary level broke. Oh will spring time in the mid-west.

Wow, didn't get anywhere near that at my place . Weatherman said yesterday marked 270 days since we saw 80 degrees and I'm good with that.

We hit around 81 today. They have been calling for rain the last couple of days but not a drop yet. I hope we get something soon to brake this heat.
