Had 2014 Dually to dealer for 24 MO/30,000 mile service for AS69RC transmission fluid change per the Maintenance Schedule. The Technician said the oil looked good, recommended it be changed at 60,000 miles and documented the same on the service receipt. Happy days; saved me a chunk of change, but nonetheless, left me feeling a little uneasy. Comments?

The fluid is to be drained and refilled at 30,000 miles per Ram. At 60,000 it gets a drain and refill with a filter. If he did not do this you are not following the maintenance schedule unless they have changed something as my schedule is based on a 2015 Ram with Aisin

LOOKED good????

No need to test fluid at a lab when a quick sight test and sniff test will work and alert you of any contamination or inappropriate wear. LOL. SMH. Techs make me crazy at times LOL. SMH.
Wonder who would pick up the tab if a failure happened? The dealership who said the fluid was good and did not follow Ram/Aisin maintenance? Or the owner who did not follow the maintenance schedule but trusted in a dealer who did not know what the schedule was?
Many have told of Aisin fluid that gets dumped and looks and smells as good as new. They dump it anyway to keep warranty. I am getting close to doing my first fluid drain and fill. Going with the Mobil 3309 fluid since Aisin stamped it on the side of the transmission and it is MUCH cheaper than the Ram stuff. I should be ok since the manufacturer stamped what they want used on the transmission itself.

Will be doing a fluid change on mine after my next trip, getting close to 30,000. Here is a picture of the sticker on the side.

Will that same Klown (aka Tech) pick up the repair tab in the event a warranty situation arises.....and is denied.....given the fact that the transmission was not maintained according to the maintenance schedule ?

Still just blows me away how some customers place their faith & trust in the hands of certain dealership staff.....and it simply falls through like sand through an hourglass.

Two things then happen.....a customers vehicle is not properly maintained and the dealership cuts their own throat by missing an opportunity for a legitimate sale of a service.

By the way....a 19mm socket, a drainpan, 8 quarts of your choice of fluid (either Mopar ASRC or Mobill 3309----will require about 7.2 quarts total) and about thirty minutes of your time and it is a DONE DEAL !!!!

A Tech stating a 30k AISIN service is not needed-----is right up there with a Tech saying theres no rear frame mounted separator on a 2013 & newer 2500 / 3500 CTD

Pretty much this. Drain and fill is easy. The fluid looked clean when it drained (not black like my wife's Volvo's Aisin ATF), but in the pan it was all glittery.

I did the fluid and filter on my Aisin / 3500 this week. Getting the pan off was lousy until I figured out to loosen and jack up the transmission. Used a wobble and 1/4" drive to get the rear pan bolts behind the cross member. Look on youtube and you will see what I mean.

Maybe it's because I did it with the truck facing downhill, but even after I got the pan off there was still a lot of fluid up inside the filter that came out when I removed it. Keep a bucket underneath (glad I did).

For reference, this truck (new to me) was 50k miles. Fluid was glittery and had never been changed.

It is normal to find a light dusting of "glitter" in the trans pan, especially on the first fluid change. The "glitter" is fine burrs that are on newly-machined parts, that get knocked off as the transmission operates. So they aren't really from "wear," more like just knocking off the rough edges.

But if you find a small PILE of "glitter," then you likely have problems.

You guys and all your concerns and inputs kill me that use your trucks for hauling groceries. We have a couple trucks at the shop with the Aisin transmissions that work hard everyday and have over 300,000 on them and have never even had the fluid changed. I would LOVE to have all the money the guys on this forum just throw away worrying about the stupidest little things.

I guess you don't drive with insurance either. I can't afford to drive without it and the prospect of having to eat a huge repair bill that FICA won't pick up just because I don't change a few quarts of oil. But with your money I could do that. For me, it's more about the fine print in the contract than the fine metal shavings in the trans or motor that a filter picks up.

Aaron Oregon, you and me both. we have 5 Ram 5500's at my job, all past the 200k mark and I'm pretty sure none of them have ever had the Aisin transmission serviced.

on another point, people pay 3000 dollars for the Aisin transmission, and then pay double the costs servicing it (30k miles versus 60k mile interval)..

make me wonder if the transmission is worth the extra money?

"Aisin transmissions that work hard everyday and have over 300,000 on them and have never even had the fluid changed."

That's just plain stoopid.

well 12v. why is it stupid? I'm one to change my fluid and filters but I've seen plenty of stuff in my life where they never lifted the hood and just drove it to failure, and in a strange sort of way I don't think it cost them any more than maintaining it.. them types usually just get another vehicle and move right down the road..

I guess its easy to ignore/endorse not following recommended service intervals on these expensive trucks if you didn't pay for it and it belongs to someone else......:-laf

my employer pays for the truck, they actually want it to run 24/7/365, not spend time in a shop getting the transmission filter changed. they'd bytch you out if you took the time to wash it. LOL Although it might be counter intuitive, I think it actually saves them money running it into the ground compared to downtime for dumb shyt like changing fluid in a diff or the transmission... they will go for an oil change once in awhile but thats about it... they don't care simply because it needs to run and if it doesn't run they will buy a different one... . something civilian end users like most of us don't usually understand.

What's to understand.....your employer or the people he (or she) hired to make the vehicle service decisions looks to be the real dumb shyt here.......They won't take a vehicle out of service for an hour or two a month to service it?? That's laughable.....:-laf
