VP44 warranty

Hey Bill, Don't be surprised if you get a bill in the mail when your dead VP 44 gets back to chrysler and they see the wire pricked where the Powermax was installed. They will be sending it back to your dealer at thier expense. I know this because I work at a Dodge dealer and have tried it. Chrysler was warranting the pumps for along time and have since stopped. A couple a months ago they sent out a letter to all dealers about inspecting the pump wires for pricks, and if any where found the warranty will be VOID.

Mine lasted a whole 3436 miles.

Left a stop sign and there was no power.

Dealer invoice says the following:

Test drove with DRB and fuel pressure gauge hooked up. Fuel pressure steady at 12psi. Had code for P0216 injector pump timing failure. Earsed codes and test drove, on test drive engine stumb led and the timinig fault came back. Called star they rec to replace injection pump.

vp44

just replaced mine this week--100500 miles. Bosch Dealer Dealer is close in location to Banks Corp. in CA)says the BANKS OTTOMIND caused the problems. BANKS says "NO WAY" I say "OUCH" because I have to PAY!!--$1557. 00 total installed.

VP44

2 ND TIME---Date on the ECM is 07/14/98

I'm not sure the pump was bad now that the Bosch dealer replaced the original vp44. They said it was "throwing codes" The problem was hard starts. It is doing the samething!! I think it is due to the add-on pusher pump. Too much fuel (not needed) at start up. Going back to Bosch tomarrow.

Well add my name to your list. 199,000 died VP44. Got a great deal. Company in FL sell them with the upgraded circuit board for $1100. Paid local Dodge delaer in CA $350 to install. Runs like it did new.

Lift pump replaced due to mileage, not failing at 185,000.

my list

dealer replaced my lift and VP44 pumps at 12k, I just replaced the VP last summer with 76k mi. on it. Both times died instantly. Threw a P1688 code the last time. First time truck was bone stock, last one truck was like me sig. reads now with out the RV275's.

dealer replaced lift pump at 36,200... ... ... . VP44 at 38,000 only drove 4 mi. home since so I think we are good to go!

Are the older trucks(98. 5-99)more prone to lift pump failure?I heard they are worse than say a 01' or something like that. Is this true?Because I am looking at a 99' right now with 114k on it.

At 80000 I got a stumble and a code, dealer replaced but I had a bad feeling so I started research which led me here. Untill then I did nothing but drive the ---- out of it and change the oil. ( It is supposed to be a diesel is it not?) Boy was I supprised to find out how many were failing. I now have a FASS and so far all is ok. Many thanks to this web site for the information available.

second time around

Lost my first one at 70k. Fortunately on the dealers nickel that time. Second time was at 117k. I kept getting timing failure codes and a loss of power. It would fail and then a day or two later clear itself and run normally. I finally just gave up and had the pump changed. I travel for work and could just see me in the middle of nowhere with a dead pump. Too darn cold up here to risk that nightmare. Runs like a champ now. Also started using the Stanadyne fuel additive.
