John, I can't comment on what you seen, but I am not a good photographer. My pictures didn't out, but guess what it's actually sunny here so I can takes some good pics. The 2 tc's that we had here both had the billet cover that you guys are talking about. I hope they aren't prototype as real people actually paid for them less than 2 months ago. But again I can't tell you what you seen.

Stefan---how old is this t/c---guys it's most likely an ATS t/c, but we're not seeing the billet end---maybe it's an older one or then maybe it's not---I'm sure Stefan will fill us in... ... thanks for the pics guys..... chris

Hey Stephan, I am looking forward to seeing you and your better half at maymadness. This time Fred and I will be able to stay for most of it if not all of it.

Jim

Hey Stefan.

I look forward to seeing your pictures! Could you do me a favor and include a pic of your backing plate? I am not asking for this to make it an open issue on this forum, I am curious. I cant remember what yours looked like. If you dont want to post it, send it to me in an E-mail. Thanks

This is not intended as a flame Ats or DTT.

ATS a responce to the pictures that Stefan posted is a must, if in fact that is one of your Tc's.

Yes or No?

Any more pics Stefan?

PowerWagon,

The first picture is of the back of the converter. The bottom is the billet front cover. If you look down the side of the converter you'll come to a thick portion of metal. This is where the billet piece starts.

That is NOT a billet converter. I have seen billet converters it ain't one.

The third picture is a stock milled stator. I thought we all passed this years ago. Let me quote from the service manual for those that don't have one.

STALL TEST ANALYSIS:

Stall speed too Low:

Low stall speed with a properly tuned engine indicates a torque converter overrunning clutch problem. The condition should be confirmed by road testing. A stall speed 250-350 rpm below normal indicates the converter overrunning clutch is slipping (or milled down). The vehicle also exhibits poor acceleration but operates normally once highway cruise speeds are reached.

So basically, we can sacrifice torque mulitplication to get fluid coupling to come in at a lower rpm. It's right there in the service manual. Companies have been doing it for years. It's always been profitable.

-Chris

I talked to a couple people who make converters... You CAN make improvements on a stock converter by milling the stator. Notice, I said "improvements". The best you can do is a small difference in quality of coupling at higher speed. So, a "milled stator", assuming it's done correctly" is not a problem in itself.

one more question?

Quoted from the Advertising Vs. Reallity thread

"For the record!

O. E. linning area 33. 66 not 34. but close enough!

D. T. T. linning area 41. 56 not 34.

A. T. S. linning area 117. 6 not 119.

I hope this will clear up some of the mis-leading

info regarding this subject on this post and

on the a. t. s. web site.

disclaimer: supplier's of quality remanufactured

torque converter's for D. T. T. and hundred's of other TCS customers.

steve marshall TCS TRANSMISSION PRODUCTS "

I thought DTT built thier own converters. Can anyone answer that question?

Of course we have our TC’s built by professionals. Most guys that design products have them built to spec by professionals. You didn’t think he had me in the back room building them did you? Bill is our transmission builder, product designer and heads up our technical support staff. PS, we have other things he's designed built by other professionals too, . I am not really sure what your point was but I hope this helps.

The more I find out about DTT, the more I learn what a crock I was lead to beleave in the beginning. I'am not saying DTT came out right and said certain things, I'am saying what I was lead to beleave.

The more I see DTT's true face the more I'am glad I went with someone else's product. Even though this product is not perfect, I'am glad I stayed away from DTT.

Ron

I can say as a DTT customer, that I've known from the beginning that their converters were build by a 3rd party, and DTT isn't afraid to tell you that.

My point is, they have never tried to hide this fact, it is just that no one asked the question.

Ask and you shall receive!!
