2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission battery draw from IOD fuse

I have a 0. 7amp draw on my batteries that goes away when I pull the IOD fuse. What could cause this draw. The glovebox light seems to go off when closed. I have not pulled the connector off of the back of the STCM (my fat hands don't reach very well) but from what I have read that is only like a . 4 amp draw anyway. Anyone see a draw like this and what was it

The IOD (igniton off draw) fuse is designed to be pulled when the truck is new and in transit. It kills everything that draws power when the ignition is off. That is why it has that plastic retainer so it retains the fuse in position to be pushed back in.

The only things I am aware of that pull power are the central timer and the radio (clock) or the alarm system if you have that option. I'm not sure what they draw. If you want to see if there is anything else pulling power hook up your volt/amp meter and start pulling fuses one at a time to see if there is a drop in amperage when one specific fuse is pulled.

i think the under hood light is also off of this fuse

I checked all of the other fuses and the only one drawing is IOD.

As for the under good light it stopped working 2 years ago.

did you unplug the seatbelt connector at the back of the black box under the center seat or did you unplug the 2 wire connector underneath the metal plate assembly

I pulled that connector too and it didn't change. it sounds like we are searching for the same gremlin.

The seat belt control module on the 98 12 valve quad cab (under the center seat) continues to draw electrical power for 30 minutes after the ignition is turned off, so that the seat belt solenoids are energized, enabling one to escape from the belts even when ignition is off. Checking the drain after 30 minutes or more may give useful information.

I'm curious, too. I've been searching for this little Nazi gremlin for over 7 years on one of the ranch trucks. The '98 12v has a draw that will kill new batteries in two weeks or so. The '98 24v doesn't have this problem, and they were ordered side by side with the same options. WTH?!?!?! I have a solar panel I put on the '98 12v when it's parked, and this keeps it up, but dang, what a pain!! And if the hands forget to plug it in, and it sits for several weeks, guess what?!?!!

damn glove box light

Well I finally found the problem. I had checked this before but apparently I missed it. It was the glove box light. The glove box door had slightly warped over time and was not fully engaging the switch allowing the light to stay on all the time (wish I could get all my light bulbs to last 2 years of constant illumination) To check it just open your glove box and touch the light bulb right away if it is hot it was on when the door was closed but be forewarned if it has been on for a while it may be very hot.
