I think I know what it is. I saw it during the news last night on TV, it was during the weather portion of the broadcast. The weather guy said that there was a high pressure area centered over this part of the country creating a "storm block". :-laf :-laf

Thanks for the replies, sounds like what ever year I get it's gonna be a good decsision. I like the one that I have , but it's almost broken in (48,000) :p and I'm thinkin' that change isn't a bad thing. Keep em' comin':D

Don't you hate it when the wife invades your personal posting time?:-laf :-laf What's up JT --the TV going out and you're after a bigger one?

Even them perfect beer-commercial bimbos keep their faces stuck in a mirror half the day.

And howdy Ms. JT, ain't he a dandy?

I'll just stick with

Super Limited edition Y2K. Built to me specs and not that many of the 2k's around - build was from Aug to Dec. Never heard the total unit #'s tho. You want to buy mine??? then pony up the xtra cash for the Limited Production Run (LPR) - just too bad I picked a "common" color. Due like the goldish or bronze they used in oughtone. Ho-Hum, bank owns it for 5 mor years (un-less lottery comes in :D)). At least it still got about 5k of warraty left - but not for long :p :p !!

The best year is the year you get your truck:) until the next year dodge and cummins improves it better:{

The 24v, 6 speed, disc brakes is tough to beat:D

As for the lack of sound deadening, I don't need it as too many years of construction has done my ears in. I love my truck and feel it is the best that dodge put out.

If the block cracks just put some JBweld in it and it's good to go. :D

Make sure it's Intense Blue, the best color Dodge ever put on a truck. :p

Just a few more things to keep in mind. ;)

2000 vs 2002

I can give you a fair comparision! I had a 2000 Auto 355`s and just traded for a 2002 HO 6 speed. Get the disc brakes without a doubt... so much difference and I did have a dislike for the 00 brakes, had the fronts redone once and it always pulled a bit, was ready for 3rd set of front pads at 59,000 mi. The discs are right one. I`ll tow our 32` TT later today then will be the real test, for the brakes, the power and the 6 speeds! It really did P--s me off that they took out the rear fender liners... . STUPID.

besides one lift pump the y2k has been real good, the engine has never used a drop of oil from day one, the original brakes are still good at 70k, yea it's got that '53' block but failures are very rare in ram applications, besides DC probably wouldn't give me a new engine just because I read it here. :D

Get the last of a great looking truck while you can! 2003's will be hitting the lots in numbers soon and there will be smoking deals to be had on 2002's(actyally there already is). Disk brakes ARE way better than the old setup - I owned a 2000 so I know the difference. Auto vs stick could go either way, the 2000 was a stick like every other vehicle I have ever had. After I drove a DTT truck, I knew the next truck I owned would be an auto. Every so often I wish I was grabbing gears again, and my next ride I honestly don't know which way I'll go. One thing I can say for sure - 0-100MPH with 450hp under the hood is way more fun with a built auto IMO! I had the windows down the other day and was listening to the tires getting roasted at every shift.

Interesting note on the rear wheel liners, mine has them, but I hear of a bunch on the site that don't? They did get rid of the hood insulation, but I don't think it makes much of a difference anyway. Happy truck hunting!

Just left a Cummins shop here in Great Falls today with my new 2002 HO and a new EZ installed. Everybody there has a Dodge sitting in the lot and they ogled my ride. One was trying to find a new 2002 but his sources came up blank. New ones in though. They liked the brakes of course but the simpler front axle was a plus in their minds. Six speed a real plus with the bigger clutch. As an aside they said forget the egt and boost guage with the EZ but fuel pressure good idea. Keep up rpms to reduce egt's and just drive it. They like post turbo for egt as I saw a burnt-off sensor tip and the turbo it killed. All big rigs are post turbo egt.

Anyway, if you can FIND a new 2002 like mine it is simple to outfit the hood (just ordered the NoiseKiller and acoustic mtls) and fender liners are cheap if you want em. The latest trucks are sans some simple unimportant (but irritating) stuff but really incidental to the overall refinement of the last of this model. Ifyaknowhatimean. George

Ok,I'll bite on this one.....

Can somebody help me here... ...

Since I did not take the time,or waste the time,to read this entire post and the babblings of the others about which is the better year for a "overvalved" truck,I'll only ask the person who started it this one little question-Is your heart set on buying a new/newer truck???. If you answered the question yes then you find what color and options you want and purchase it,accepting whatever fate lies ahead for you.

They, each year, all have their good points and bad points it just a deal on which ones you want to deal with or may have to deal with. Personally if you did a search here you would find as most have already that the early 98 12valver quad cabs are the most sought after by a person who is going the mod route.

I am one of those owners and I can personally say at times I wish my truck was a 24valve. It would be nice to have the luxury of turning off the power when its bad weather time(rain, snow, etc) and enjoying a ride home back in the seat not on the edge. BUT,when its time to anty up for more mods my 12 valve sure is nice buy not hurtin my wallet for those electronic mods and the ensuing gliches they bring.

So then it comes to this and you'll need to decide on these questions,is a new truck what I really want,is the 24valve motorwhat I seek,or do I just want a truck with a quad cab?. Your choice obviously, but, there are plenty of 12 valve quads around, you just have to dig a little for them... ... . Andy

Hammer , a 98' with the 12v and a quad cab , seems to be a great deal, however , the problem that I have is finding one that is nice ,and doesn't have 100,000 plus miles on it. Also , trading up only two years doesn't seem worth while to me. My 96' has been a good truck, and the only reasons I will trade is for the quad cab , and to keep from loosing the resale value of my current rig. The reason I posted this question is because I personally know very little about the 24 valve trucks and was hoping to get oppinions on different combo/ perks of the different available units on the market. To use this as an example , I feel that finding a unit with disc brakes would be a plus. Merely an opinion formed from reading the experinces of others. It is my understanding that this is what the TDR is for. Further more , if I could buy a 2000,1,2 with a 12 valve in it , that is deffinitly what I would do , if for no other reason than the ones that you posted.

Andy, why would anybody want an under valved truck  . I would think you would want to go to the latest and greatest you could afford. From reading the TDR, it is obvious that over the years DC has upgraded and refined this beast. I know, different strokes for different folks, I even have a friend that has an old Volkswagen bug that he thinks is the best vehicle in the world

I looked for a 12v/quad for 1 1/2 years but never found a "nice" one. Finally Bill Heath from Diesel Performance in Ellensburg WA convinced me of this: Yes, the rotary pump will last half as long as the 12v but costs less than half to replace. Now with the addition of a pusher pump that issue may be better yet for the 24v pump. Horsepower increase in his mind was electronically "slick" and problems almost zip with good product. And cheap. I got a long lasting Cummins with the hp of the newest engines with just an EZ, installed for $525. (I started with an HO). Plus I have a 6spd, simple front axle, latest updates and 4 wheel disc. All I need now is to watch fuel pressure and maybe add a pump. Maybe. Seems like an easy decision. George

NO turbo upgrade? Really? Have you seen the turbo on the 03's. Looks like it's just part of the tube. Barely a bump in the line. That things gotta go. .

Lets use logic here, how many think Cummins redesigned the block on our trucks for their last year of production? There is nothing wrong with the blocks on your trucks, you have a better chance of winning the LOTTO then having a problem with the block on your truck even if it has a "53" on it. If you want to worry about something try "Global Warming"
