I would look to be sure it is not a 53 block as mentioned above. I have a later 01 H/O. The more I read about all the newer more powerful engines not getting the mileage the older engines got, I'm starting to think my 245 hp,505 ft lbs and 21 m. p. g might be just about right.JHenry said:I am interested in a used 1-ton Dodge 4x4 with 24 valve engine to plow snow. Is there a particular year that is stronger, or known to have fewer problems? Thanks. Jerry Henry

RustyJC said:That poll is pretty meaningless without population data, extent of modifications, etc. Polling falls under the mathematical discipline of statistics, and there are rigorous requirements that must be met before results can be "taken to the bank".
As an example, the VP-44 on my truck has never failed. Therefore, it is 100% reliable.
I would go back to the posit that the 2002 should have the latest revisions in the lift pump, VP-44, ECM/PCM, etc. and, therefore, should be the most reliable engine (the subject of the original post in this thread). That's why I ordered a 2002, and mine has been completely reliable to date.

The original question was which model year was most desirable in terms of 24 valve engines, not the entire truck, right?SNOKING said:Might we true except that they deleted a lot of things on the 2002's.
