I just had a reality check from the dealer. The '94 "lower steering column" is unique and they want $220 for a new one. I really didn't want to BOMB that part but, you know, I really can't justify replacing it with the stock one for that kind of cash.

So, my question is: Flaming River or Borgeson and why? Any comments on either one?

Thanks!

Extreme:

I had a Borgeson installed in my truck about six (6)

months ago along with all the other new front end parts

(i. e. : ball joints, track bar, shocks, upper/lower control

arms etc. ). I like the Borgeson alot! It is much thicker

and heavier than the stock one, has much heavier u-joints

and really tightened up my steering which was really

getting loose after 120,000 miles. Some of the other

members have used the "Flaming River" shaft and say

it is a good product too. Do a search on them so you

can read all the entries.

Hope this has helped you some.

Hmmm. When did I install my Flaming River... Hmmm. Oh, yeah. Back around 50K miles when I installed my Rickson wheels. 48K miles now with nary a problem. Well, nary a problem due to the FR itself: when I had the steering gear changed, I re-centered the steering wheel myself (to save a few bucks labor), and forgot to adequately tighten the set screws and lock nuts. The darn thing was rattling and threatening to fall off! Cinched and torqued it and it's been fine since (6K miles and counting)!

Not familiar with the Borgeson, but I'm quite satisfied with my FR.

And here I was just about to get a finger cramp typing it out once again. We just installed a Flaming River shaft last week at the shop. My experience with Borgeson also influenced where we as a company get our aftermarket parts from. Thanks, Cooker for the quick feedback!

Thanks Chris and Cooker!

I was going to order a Borgeson today but, fortunately, I ran out of time. Now, after reading the other thread - NOT!!

I'll order a FR tomorrow.

Thanks again!

Looks like the old TDR dues just earned it's keep again.
