Brake controller light

After a heavy rain today I got into my truck and the Tekonsha Voyager brake controller light was on without the trailer hooked up . Whats up with it? I drove it into town and back and the light is still on. I'm assuming water got in where the splices were made. Any ideas? TIA Sixpack

When my Jordan controller showed a dim continuity light with no trailer hooked up, I found that the 7-pin connector on the factory hitch receiver was packed full of water and grime, causing a high resistance short between the terminals. I disassembled it, cleaned it up with WD-40 and packed it with dielectric grease, then reassembled it. No problems since.

I checked them both (4 prong flat too) and nothing seemed dirty or corroded Although there was water in the 4 prong plug cap. I emptied and dried it to no avail. Any other ideas? TIA

Did you take the factory 7 pin connector apart? The corrosion and grime often builds up where the wires are connected. I will be packing mine with dielectric grease soon to avoid problems in the future. Check the wire routing to make sure no wires are pinched or damaged. Unless there is a problem with your controller, which I doubt, there is current flowing between two of the wires. My bet is still on your seven pin connector.

Yea I took it apart. It is only 3 weeks old so corrosion wasn't the problem. All the pins and wires were all ok and not touching each other.

I had the same problem when I first wired my truck last year with a six pin. It rained, the light came on, I took it apart, looked fine I smeared a little dielectric grease into the plug, put it back together, and it hasn't been a problem since.



I found the grease at the local trailer sales place.



The smallest amount of water in the back of the plug can cause a short, so the grease is a good way to go.

The problem was in the factory 7 pin. The connection (pig tail) from the plug to the wire harness was full of water . Dried it out, light went out ! Thanks for the replies.
