I never put an engine together without washing it thoroughly myself. Some warm, soapy water, various brushes and some clean, lint-free rags will get the job done. I like to dry it with a heat gun when I'm done washing. It seems to get it real dry, and the paint seems to stick better when it's warm.
I don't think the prices were real bad from my local Cummins dealer. Cummins Mid-South here in Jackson. They didn't have everything, but will have it tomorrow. I got everything I will need to put it back together for under a grand. If everything works out I should come in well under budget, and way, way less than the $8000 quoted by the dealer. I'm probably going to have less than 2 grand in it and that includes the used conOFE I got from Olee Poole.
Forgot to mention, Dieselcare in Memphis did the injectors for me. Fixed for under $250. I was very pleased with the price. I decided not to go with performance tips just yet. Maybe later.
