my ex's sister moved to cali in the late 70's with a 60's cougar. she had to have all kinds of emissions installed to get tags. so if you don't think they will make us install emissions equipment, your mis-informed. and it seams that after cali and new york, the rest of the country adopts thier requirements.

just like cali, closing off roads in the desert. so only horses bicycles and people walking can get into the wilds. what happed to the american disabilities act.

sorry we can't help you with that!!

cali going bankrupt, now maybe that will force them to reduce thier regulations.

"you're"

"seems"

they're not calling for retrofits for private 1ton and smaller trucks... this is focused on commercial vehicles.

yes, in california, if you have a flatbed or a utility bed, you fall under commercial regs... it's retarded, but if you want to live in wacky-land, you have to play by the rules.

they're not going to require every Joe Citizen to retrofit his old $5K 12v truck with an '04+ engine and a DPF system!!!!

oh noes, you had to put a $3 PCV valve and a rubber hose on your 1960 Cougar? that's EXACTLY the same thing this bill OUTLINES!

read, understand, maybe bone up on the English language a little...

not just the big rigs

it wasn't just a pcv valve, the cougar already had one. it required a new distributer with a retard feature. timing reduced. and a lean setup on the carburetor. over $500. 00 in the 70's. which would be around $5,000 now.

i'm using her car as a example of what the air resources board can and will do if they want.

over the road trucks have a option to install a particulate filter on their own. to maybe forestall being required to install common rail injection on rigs that didn't come with it.

if you think the changes will stop with the big rigs, you will be awaken in just a few years or less, to a new reg. to retrofit light duty trucks as well.

my old '83' is getting a turbo and a particulate filter in the next year or two to clean up it's act.

I don't know a lot about the makeup of CARB, but for a non-elected (I think) body, they sure wield a lot of power. It scares the crap out of me that with the financial problems CA is in, they are choking the life out of more and more businesses.

We are in a Recession, readin this is puttin me in Depression. Time travel, fix the old Flathead, no seat belts? time when you could ride in the bed. Ford made it simple like a tractor and 6v, Dont think Emissions was a word then. CARB was on the intake manifold, with an oil bath.

No forrest... ..... any truck in CA is considered commercial, unless you have the bed covered. IE: camper shell or tonneau cover. When you have a licence plate on a truck in Ca and the second digit is a letter its commercial.

LIke I have tried to explain... . Dodge 1 ton trucks are rated over 10K GVW as are fords. most chevys are not.

So when you stick ANY thing other than a regular bed on it, you now have to have weight tags displayed some where on the side of the truck. If you are a business (even a rancher) you have to have CA numbers. To get CA numbers you have to have a motor carrier permit. To get a motor carrier permit you have to have a 750,000 dollar CSL insurance policy.

I don't understand the CA commercial thing. In BC all pickups are classed as commercial and get commercial plates. From a practical POV all that means is you can change your licensed GVW (total haul weight) but you're not a real trucker until that's over 5,500kg (12,000lb). A lot of 4-wheelers want a commercial plate because bumping their licensed GVW to 5,001kg means no vehicle emissions inspections.

i live in texas, we don't have diesel testing yet, but i heard rumots of it. colorado has had it for a number of years. see here in texas you just register you truck in a county where they have no emissions. CARB and EPA can go to you know where!!!

I just got a letter a while back from CARB stating that small home based compact tractors above 30hp would need to be made smog compliant... I know a few excavators where I live, that have had to make their bigger tractors compliant. What some are doing now is selling their equipment at a loss, taking a tax deduction. then leasing new equipment, and passing the extra cost to the consumers... . when I bought my truck new in Jan 01... . I thought I was done with this smog crap... . now it's in my kitchen... and I don't like it!!!!

Sounds like the entire state of California will be bankrupt soon. Maybe CARB will be eliminated with the budge cuts... ... we can always dream.

Particulate filters will start fires,if I get a new diesel truck out comes the sawzall, and my mpg and emissons will improve.

you mean out comes the sawzall and the OBD-II interface and your vast computer programming skills in order to reprogram the ECM so that the truck doesn't go into limp mode, right?

California will have the cleanest air in the country... when no one can afford to live there anymore!

Boy you are just bound and determined to argue with who ever about what ever... ... ..... what about a DPF eliminator kit??????????

I thought that this "club" of TDR members was to support each other and join forces to protect what we all have an interest in. Guess some here just have to pretend they support the other guy and our "hobby" but really are on the other side.

did you mean "hobby" ? :p

I'm bound and determined to apply logic to any situation. If you want to run a DPF delete setup, that's one thing, but proclaiming "bygum, I'm gonna hack that there DPF off as soon as I get her in the driveway" might give some of our other members the mistaken idea that they can simply cut it off with no problems.

Forrest, you need to burn one,and chill out. yes I will cut the piece of crap off before I start a fire driving offroad,or burn some kid in the parking lot. There will be a delet kit soon, made by people way smarter than you.
