Cargo/Utility Trailer Markup?

Anyone know what these trailers are marked up? Don't mind paying a fair price but really hate getting ripped off. Of course, you can't find used ones - at least around here - so I'm looking at a new Pace American 8x14 Cargosport. Thanks.

no one has any ideas where I could find trailer invoice pricing or what a fair offer, percentage wise, would be for a cargo trailer?

What are you using it for? I have a Wells Cargo with ramp door,

It is only 6x12 single axle. No brakes. I haul 2 Harleys in it.

Been thinking about selling it and buying a Toy hauler.

But, of course, they don't list invoice pricing.



tcourse - Decided if I'm going to get one, it needs to be able to do just about anything, including hauling the wifes Montero Sport when we move. So, with that in mind, decided to get a Shadow 20' with 10K axles... . Now the problem is, that's a rare beast. They normally build that model with a 7K gross. Why? Beats me... trailer empty is about 3K. That leaves only 4K to haul. For us, the MS is a 4300# (exactly!) vehicle so no dice there. Can't find the 10K axles so I guess we're going to pass this time. Good luck with yours, though.

When looking at trailer capacity you have to consider hitch type and wieght transfer. I have a 28' 5th wheel car trailer that weighs 5600 and is registered for 9800. I've carried over 6K legaly because of the weight transfer onto the truck.

Unfortuenatly, here in N. E. , no-one has any stickers on any kind f trailer. The mfg's don't want to say how much they are, it's up to you to find as many dealers in your area, and see what they go for. Sorry if this isn't a direct answer.

Joel - Last July I bought a Haulmark 18' through a dealer in Indiana and did a factory pickup in Utah and saved about 1500 over a local dealer. The dealer is A & R Port-A Stor 800-535-8225

Thanks guys - it's on the back burner for this move

Decided that if I was going to get one, the Pace American Shadow 20' (or something equivalent) was what fit the bill. This way, we could haul the wife's vehicle if we chose. Unfortunately, that trailer is made with 3500# axles for a 7K gross. Empty weight is 3K and the wife's vehicle is 4300 even. Searched high and low for one with 5100# axles, but apparently it's a special order and there were none built anywhere. Oh well. Next move, we'll order one early so we have the option. Plus, if I get the orders I want, we'll probably need something for storage since we won't be buying a house there.



And, I'll be in a position to go pick it up at the factory, too!

Trailer pricing

I bought a 24 foot Haulmark just over a year ago. I did a lot of research then and continue to do so as this is a stop-gap trailer until I can afford a 5er with living quarters.



Pick up a copy of National Dragster or other such national publication. Most of the dealers that advertise nationally sell the basic trailer at cut rate prices hoping that people will shop on trailer price alone. Then... the options kill you. :--) Find the best base trailer price, then shop around on options and use you research to leverage the best deal on both the base trailer and the options. Definitely pick up at the factory if possible. Delivery is usually $1 a mile or so.



Having said all of this about price, keep in mind service. My Haulmark had a leak in it and their warranty does not cover towing the trailer to and from the dealer or factory for repair. I bought mine from a local dealer with no service and ended up taking the trailer to Salina three time for this problem. (360 miles roundtrip). All Haulmark would do for my trouble is a free spare, guess it's better than nothing.



Bottom line is Pace, Haulmark, Wells Cargo, Featherlite, US Cargo pretty much all of the major brands are good. Most basic trailers are extremely basic, including the 3500 pound axles.
