2006, 5.9. How to unhook wire harness at valve cover

Yep, original 04.5 injectors probably built somewhere in early to mid 04. 032 is the last 3 of injector number, 68106 is the date stamp. Have to see what date that really is.

Guess I should've bought "new" injectors and not remanufactured.
Its getting shipped off tomorrow. I'm sure they'll decline warranty work for some BS reason

They are "new" injectors in as much as they are a production run unit not remans. It is the fact they have been sitting for 17 years on a shelf somewhere in questionable climate that is potentially a problem. Let any precision instrument sit for long enough and there is no guarantee they will perform correctly.

And don't forget that Bosch implemented several improvements to the design of our injectors over the years. They are far from being the same as 15 years ago.

That date code is January 2006, still the original 04.5 injector with no updates and 15 years old. It probably scored the pintle shaft and now is no reacting correctly or the solenoid has issues. Check the others and make sure they did not mix the builds up in the set.

Good news you didn't get the 007's.

I caved and bought a brand new Bosch injector from diesel power products. I'll keep the reman injector for a spare when it gets fixed

Just got email from injectorsdirect. The injector did fail. They said it wasn't stuck wide open but it was over fueling. They're sending me another that I'll keep as a spare.
Installing new Bosch injector today and putting new oil in. Cross my fingers everything is good

The 032's are not a reman injector. They are new, just way old stock with none of the updates. The other 5 are now suspect.

Replaced the injector, changed the oil. Fired truck up and runs like crap. rough idle and still smokes. No blow by on the valve cover cap but if hold a flash light over the hole I can see smoke. Guess the rings are fried in #5 piston.
I'm beyond pissed off at this point

Anyone know a good compression test kit? I guess that's the next step I should take before yanking the head off

Some blow by and vapor is normal, if have to use a flashlight to see it is not an issue. You run the rpms up to about 1000 and watch the oil fill for puffing is the a quick way to tell if you have major issues.

Pretty much any decent part store compression test set that will use the injector hole is fine if you want to go that route.

I went out and let it idle for a bit just to see if any of the crap needed to be burned off/up. Check engine light came on and getting P0305, Cylinder 5 - misfire detected

You have a bad harness or injector solenoid. If that is the new injector then might be harness or even ECM issues.

Greyish blue doesn't mean oil, diesel fuel is oil and when it is combusted incorrectly it is greyish blue. If it really was sucking that much oil the engine would run away when it fired. I think you have either wiring issues with the harness or a set of bad injectors.

I measured the resistance on the injector solenoids, all .03-.04 ohms. I disconnected the #5 injector two nuts and it doesn't smoke. Threaded them back on and smokes. Took them off one more time and no smoke.
Next I'll measure the plug on the gasket

Took a reading of the valve cover harness but I'm not getting any ohms. I went from the top of the injector solenoid to the harness plug on the side of the valve cover. followed the wire into the plug and took the reading from the correct pin. Sometimes It bounces around but it always goes back to 0's. This is on all injector wires.
Should I be getting a reading on these like I do on the top of the injector solenoid (between the two of them)

You should be able to ohm out wires disconnected from the injectors to the plug on the outside of the VC riser. Should be like minimum sensitivity of the DVOM you are using, usually .5 ohms. An open reading form plug to injector end of wire indicates the harness is bad.
