Checked my 06 (manuf 10/05) this afternoon. It already has the lengths of hose attached and running down the side of the tank.

steved,

That's it ! It may be wise to drop the tank and clean it out, I got nearly a gallon of water and sand out of mine last year. While you have the tank down put D. Kelly's (Spooled Up) vent kit on. It really makes filling the tank easier.

Ehhh... anything that WAS in the bottom of the tank has most likely been sucked through the FASS already... it has a lot more suction and volume running through it than the OEM LP ever had...

Yeah, don't have time before my trip, so I'll either get to it while on the road or when I get back... got 80k on the ticker and don't get that much stuff out to worry about it... just that it seems I always have stuff coming out of the filter...

I discovered mine in he winter. I was getting enough water in the fuel to cause the fuel lines to freeze and leave me stranded. I drained about a cup of water out of the filter every few of days .

This may or may not be of any help right now but I feel it is important to get this info out and do not understand enough about this web site to do it any other way. An independent repair shop owner that has some Doge Cummins customers told me something that I believe. Do not purchase the electric in tank fuel pump kit and by-pass the original pump. The kit does NOT work, not enough fuel pressere. The proper fix is to go to Cummins, NOT DODGE, and replace the pump with a CUMMINS pump. Much less expensive and much less work. You will then have 30 pounds pressure instead of 10 or less with the in tank junk that the Dodge dealer sells. I hope someone will put this in the proper forum, I don't understand this website. Does the vent mod everyone is talking about refer to the 05' models only or is this

something I need on my 04. 5 as well ?

Yes, you should do it. The open vents have been found on all trucks 03 thru 05. Apparently DC woke up and at least put some hoses on the 06 tanks.

OK, explain this to me...

I know some of you fill the tank until you can see fuel in the filler neck... umm, if those were open both ways (true open hose barbs and not one-way check valves), wouldn't you be running fuel out on the ground out of them?????????????????? Liquid levels don't lie...

I haven't gotten around to checking it yet... but I'm surprised at how some have extreme water issues while others (myself included) don't have anymore water than what might normally be found in fuel...

steved, I see your point, but the way our tanks are designed (poorly), we have basically a big air packet at the top of our tank. If you fill up to the neck and see fuel, then wait 30 seconds, it will gurgle down then if you repeat this about 20 times you can then get a full tank. So if you actually go to the trouble of pumping fuel an extra 20 minutes or so after it already seemingly is full... . you may see what you describe.

This is also the reason the fuel tank vent kit is marketed, to increase your fuel capacity, & take advantage of the wasted space in the tank.

They are check valves, designed to let air into the tank as fuel is consumed but not to let fuel out in a rollover accident.

Since they are one-way (IN, but not OUT), they can let water and other contaminants in.

I have always filled my tank to the filler neck and it has never leaked a drop. The only difference with Dave's vent kit is that it's much faster.

The vent kit will not increase the tank's capacity. What it will do is reduce the amount of time and patience it takes to get it 100% full.

F19 Roll Over Vent

I got this letter today about the above fix. It says I MAY need this modification and I need to drive 30 miles to the dealer and wait around for two hours to see IF it needs to be modified. What are they saying. . that some 2006's need the modification and some don't. Jeez, how long have they known about this problem. My truck was built in February and I took delivery in April. Is there some way of checking it myself to see if this fix has already been done?

I can see through my driver side wheelwell what I believe to be the rollover valve. It sits in a recess in the air space area of the tank. I think Im going to run a piece of hose off the exposed nipple and snake it up under the bed a little higher.

I thought the rollover valve was the ball that blocked the fuel filler if it gets turned upside down. I tried emptying my tank through the filler when I did my vent kit and realized pretty quickly that wasn't going to work!

Jeff

Could someone that has had the F19 modification done please tell me what it looks like so I could check to see if mine has already been done.

I just went and took a look at my new 2006 QC/SB for interest sake. I assume it's on the front end of the tank. I see the valve on the front of the tank like the one picture on the first few pages, however, it would seem that it is on top of a little bump, rather than inside a depression. Is there more than one of these things? If not, it would seem that I have a redesigned fuel tank ... .

On my 05 QC/SB there are 2 fuel tank vent nipples, the forward one is on a raised dome, the rear one is recessed 3/4 of the way around it, and level on the remaining 1/4.

Even though these aren't neccesarily sitting in a pool of water, I don't like the idea they could be sucking in water spray and dirt blowing off the road. So I added the hoses to a high mounted fuel filter to keep the crap out.

I took my 06 in for the recall work about a week ago. They said mine was the first one they had done that had water in the tank. They got the water out and put a new fuel filter and vent kit on it. I am glad I took it in. I don't know what the kit looks like - I didn't try to look at it. I took delivery last November.

Just a refresher for all the newbies this is an important thread as it affects all 3rd genners... ... ... ... ... ... ... .....
