dcs1968. The other posters are giving you good advice. An well maintained emissions intact stock '07.7 to '12 CTD
can be just fine and do what it is supposed to do. My first tow up the Gorman pass convinced me that I have plenty
of truck. Learning more from the TDR pointed to how the Blue-tec system definitely is no good. The talk about
voiding warranty and system damage not to mention EPA fines persuaded me not to go the full delete route.
Actually, modified driving cycles keeps the overhead Regeneration Required prompts from coming on.
For me, I really like the idea of more grunt for towing. I took a risk by installing a PPE Exelerator tuner.
The power upgrade was sure plenty alright and hot rodding could toast the stock transmission. So I kept
a light right foot. The truck handled so much better in city traffic. Got a lot more clatter and no mileage gains though.
Once after a dealer recall ecm flash, the service adviser said the tech wanted to ask me something but changed
his mind. Close call. I think that PPE is more suited for GM Duramax. The program kept coming up as a 5.9.
Found a Banks Automind 66108 a few years later that was emissions intact friendly and also had a CARB EO sticker.
Much better. The transmission could still be toasted if you hot rod but clatter subsided and surprisingly, mileage improved
for the first time. Another thing is that this years' smog check passed with OBDII plugged in without returning to the stock
tune first! I know that the stock transmission is the weak link and I am watching it closely. The last 4000 mile trip towing through the
Plains states including the Big Horn mts and Southern Rockies showed no TQ converter slippage even with 22 lbs boost
in 6th at 70 mph up long slight grades. So far so good. I have plans if and when needed to upgrade the transmission with a better TQ
converter and shift kit by Mike at Inglewood Transmission Services. The power upgrade was for me a want and not a need and
that included a risk. My truck is driven as a DD, a GG, machine shop truck, and towing. Everything. I feel it's the best darn running
emissions intact '08 on the planet! I would like to hear more posts from others and what they do to keep their CTD,s running so
well too! Running emissions intact can't be all bad.
