I've had the TST #5 plate for the last several years. I just now had to change the clutch last week. Mine had been slipping for at least a year in 4th and 5th. It started slipping in 3rd so I decided it was time to bite the bullet. I paid a grand for a Valair Clutch with Kevlar and the 13inch conversion with the 6speed flywheel. I had a guy in town R&R it for $500. He said that I can wait on the hydraulics but expect to have to do it eventually. He said that there is one that allows you to adjust the clutch pedal.

I have 188,000 on the truck and this was the first clutch, the mechanic said that I had more meat left on the clutch than one of his other customers that had only 10,000 miles. My hub was starting to come apart and the pressure plate was weak.

It was asked in a previous post why people do the clutch after all of the power mods? Simple answer, Power mods are cheaper and easier to do. Besides, my clutch lasted a few more years after the power mods were done.

Bad news for me... I was hoping to open things up with a 4" exhaust...

Well, I guess California is going to start smogging diesels... starting with 98's (darn)

There is some discussion about starting with the 98. 5's, instead of including the 12 valves, something to do with the electronic engines or something.

Anyways, my exhaust is 3" aftermarket cat, muffler.

So no new exhaust for me now, anyways...

So get in the gauges, then see what mods my egts can handle...

bummer for me

Why not a 4" cat back exhaust? But trust me, it does make for a drone in the cab when towing. At some point, I need to install more sound deadening.

My clutch was "slipping for a few months, until it did finally quit quit. Was a real pain when that happened, so I would just do the clutch now. It's a good feeling, when the boost hits and you can keep the throttle all the way down, and actually watch the boost go way up...

My stock clutch got fried while trying to get 4th gear donuts going, out on the playa. When it was pulled out there was no more material on one side, and the whole thing was neon purple. Surprised it held as much as it would.

I've put the Con OFE through the paces, keeps coming back for more. Stock hydraulics and never a problem knock on wood
