Comparison chart for intake manifold horns??

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

6.7L Cummins Air Filter Revision...53034051AB is now 68517554AA

Diesel Module

I am considering an intake horn upgrade. Right now, I am leaning toward CFM+, but I seem to recall somewhere in the past that I saw a chart comparing the top 4 or 5 side by side. Did I dream it or did anyone else see that chart????

I am interested in CFM+, AFE Bladerunner, ATS for now, but would consider others. Not looking for mega-horsepower, just want to lower the EGTs as much as possible. I am thinking about meth injection down the road, so a ported unit would be nice.

Mainly, I want better airflow. I know each mfg. has their own claims, but I would like to see them compared together.

Also, any experiences y'all have would be appreciated. I know everyone has "the best" on their truck, but I would like to know WHY you think it is better than the others.

Thanks..... Steve

I believe Bob 4x4 had a comparison... . or maybe on the Cummins Forum?

CFM had the highest flow numbers, but GDP as a late entry was darn close, and more reasonably priced.

I like my GDP, nothing fancy, good powder coating, and has 4 ports. I could feel low end tq improvement immediately, it is still my 1st choice.

To clear up the above post, I believe the comparison chart I am refering to, dealt with dyno numbers and not actual flow numbers. The GDP intake horn, as I remember came in second to the CFM, but the difference was slight.

Richard has good products, and is very customer oriented.

The Dyno testing I was refering to was done by someone on Cummins Forum, Tri-Valley something or other.

I did flow test many diff models but never posted the gdp #s.

I remember this, the flow #'s for the GDP horn were about the same as stock, you did not post them, but you did inform GDP. (nice gesture)

After that, someone else did a Dyno comparison with the same truck, same day, with I believe 4 different horns. CFM had the best outcome, GDP was a close second. That makes me believe flow testing on a bench does not always equate to "real world" results, and it also proved to me that my SOP indicator was "dead on", that I had considerable more low end with the GDP over the stock horn.

Thanks for the input guys!! Sounds like it is between the GDP and the CFM+ now. I guess I had better start doing more research.

Thanks again

Steve

Just a quick question. I'm looking at the GDP and wonder if there is any noticable difference w/wo the grid heater delete. I suspect that it only makes a difference if you have significant mods. Anyone have any experience with or without the spacer block installed?
Thanks

I have the GDP with the delete. I like the unit alot and have never had any CEL's or hard starting problems, but then I live in a temperate climate.

That being said, IMHO I do not think that the delete makes that much of a diffenece. A 5hp dyno increase is well within any "margin of error" or dyno- test run differentials based on subjective errors (how fast did the driver get the turbo to spool-up, for example).

The GDP also has several nicely machined ports, the dipstick bracket keeps the dipstick in the stock location without bending the tube, and it also provides a convenient mounting bracket for the GDP 2mic fuel filter assembly if you want to add it (as long as your truck doe not have the factory APS in the location). While I do not have it yet, the GDP filter kit is also a NICE unit, and I plant to get it eventually.

GDP also has cool-headed, knowledgable and excellent customer service, IMO.

In any case, both the horn and delete by GDP are very nicely designed and constructed units which ALMOST look stock (well maybe NOT the red one:-laf:-laf)

AFter re-reading this, it sounds like a serious plug for the GDP horn, which it IS. . However, I am compelled to say that I have no financial or other interest in GDP. All of the above is based on dealing with them by buying their intake horn and delete.

Is anyone out there in TDR land running a CFM Plus intake? It sounds like from all that I have read... ... ... ... ... . including all the Hoo Molly Molly... ... ..... in the search forums is the choice seems to be between GDP and CFM.

My main objective is EGTs... ... ... ... ... . anyone have any real numbers on EGT drop?

I really like what CFM has to say... ... ... ... just not sure of the longevity of the composite material on a diesel.

Any help would be appreciated... ... .....

I have the cfm and grid heater delete. The cfm did drop my egts by about 75 degrees. I did the cfm install first and notice the low end torque improvement and a litttle less smoke, and slight turbo spool improvement. the grid heater delete was not a noticable difference but every little bit adds up. Fuel mpgs might have improved but very little like . 25 but i could see were if you were towing it might be more.

Composite WILL fail you, what if you were to hit it with a wrench accidently? NOW you have to buy a new horn & you just learned the hard way. The composite is able to get the exhaust down a bit more, nothing worth giving up the reliability!!I have the ATS with plenty of ports for injection. I DIDNT DELETE the grid heater.

Thought I'd add pics of the DTT setup - with the grid heater delete - on my '02:

Sorry - no "before/after" dyno or flow figures - undoubtedly some improvement, but bought mostly for eye-appeal...
