Anyone explain how to test a Crankshaft Position Sensor? Vehicle in question is a 97 3500, buddy of mines. Lost speedo, tach, charging system,A/C, warning lights in dash. Not sure if it's that or a ECM.
Check voltage going to it, I think one wire should have 5V on it. If I recall there are 3 wires, hot (5V), ground and signal (pulses that go back to the PCM). If you had an oscilloscope you can check for pulses being picked up.
Also try adjusting its position. . . I use a piece of cereal box cardboard as a feeler gauge. You don't want to use a metal feeler.
By the way it's call the tach pickup, there's no crank position sensor on a 12-valve
And on another note: CPS = Cam Position Sensor, and Crank Pos Sensor = CKP
(sorry, couldn't resist)
