I am convinced it is the tires that cause the death wobble. I think we need another poll on what kind of tires and percentage of wear you had on when Death Wobble started. Both my Goodyears and Coopers had the death wobble at about 5/8 of the life of the tire gone. Now my Michelins are 3/4 or so worn and no Death Wobble.

I had 54,000 miles on the stock michelans that came on my 1999.

I had the RS9000's on level three on the front when I had it.

Now they are on level four with my new tires.

I had the first death wobble at about 25000 miles on my 2000. I was on one of those 4-lane parkways in Jersey that have the lanes about 1 foot wider than my truck. I thought for sure I was going to crash, it felt like both front wheels were falling off. Actually was one of the reasons I got rid of the truck. So far so good with the 02. I hope it gets resolved, because if I hadn't traded, I would still be cringing every time I approach a pothole. Good luck.

I've only had a problem on my '96 2500 360 V8 truck @ ~45k miles. New tires reduced the problem but did not solve it. I was running 255/85R16 Dunlop Radial Rover ATs and installed the stock tires - 265/75R16 Michelins I think - from my '00 2500 4wd CTD. I ran the 255 Dunlops on my '96 2500 4wd CTD w/o any problem and my dad is now running Les Scwhab 255s on the '96 CTD w/o any problem. I run 315/75R16 America's Tire Pathfinder ATR on my '00 2500 4wd CTD with no death wobble yet at ~45K miles. The 315s have been on the truck since mile 16.

I think tires may contribute to the problem but are not the root cause by a long shot.

wobble

a while back someone asked if this was a CTD problem only,as just posted it is not. my son just bought a 1500 CC short box with BIG tires on it, they must be 3----- something, with 7100M on it, and it has the death wobble. his track bar is trash on the bushing end, the stud end is marginal for play.

hang on and pray for dear life.
