Big Horn Fifth Wheel Hydraulic Leak in leveling System

Agree BigPappa, on that you could have issue if the bed tilts before the load is all the way on the tilt and that starts to move. I did think of that, thanks for the advice on the 6" deal will try that.

If in doubt, stop at the front of the tilt and latch it, then drive on the main deck.

My tilt doesn't have the damping system and I wish it did. 15 years ago only the high end stuff had these systems, I don't remember any actually having power hydraulic but maybe I just don't remember.
Pulling vehicles on and off aren't such a problem but some equipment can be tricky to pull up without really slamming down. Especially older stuff with half wore out clutches, as in everything I own :)

The damping system would be great for this. Also for dragging logs onto my trailer like I do for firewood. With my set up I have to drag each log up just shy of the tipping point then go after the next. When I've got all the logs that I'm going to load I have to rehook to each log, usually the largest, and start dragging them up one by one until they are loading the trailer proper. I would think the damping system you could close the valve, drag the logs up where you need them, slowly crack the valve to drop the deck throw your chains on and be done.

Some monsters there. Lots of work to process that size stuff. But keeps the family warm for sure.

So we always knew the weighsafe was never going to work but the stupid pin was siezed and we did not have the tools to remove at time of pick up, but I bought a new ball mount and pintle/ball adapter, those are all 16k rated.

Last week got the pin lock cut off with help from a friend, used a little bit of a worn down 3" air cut off wheel, always does the trick.. Just never had time to try the new ball mount out, tonight had like 20min to finally do it. I think it will work out OK.

I have 8" from the gate to the trailer, I will cut it hard at some point and make sure I cant get the trailer under the gate. Worry was if the trailer dipped down and popped back up could be under the Tommy Gate.

Before with known incorrect ball mount:

After with new longer set up. (Just in driveway work in progress missing some hardware)

Winch still has not arrived have a Warn Zeon coming one of these days, then need to mount a battery and the wiring at some point. Overkill for the trailer, but will use it with a bunch of other projects, have a few threads going where some of that was discussed.

Comments on that 8" from gate to trailer always welcome.

Trailer sat for like 10 days and we had that big tropical storm, found some parts that held alot of water so need to address that for sure and get the trailer weather proofed with Wool wax, fluid film, or something ASAP, not even safe before winter obviously. Will try to jack it up a bit higher, it was pitched a bit but can really crank it up to maybe get some better run off.

Well many years later I finally got my winch set up. And boy is it a heavy beast of a winch.

I put a pretty large AGM battery in the box and for now am using a NOCO Genius 10 with an extension cord. I have the little diode puck to use the trailer wiring just never got that far.

As JR had shown, I used a ball mount receiver and a $40 winch plate, all in with some other smalls was $100 for all the mouning stuff from my local trailer shop.

It worked perfect to pull up the first load. So mission accomplished even if it's years later.

Its a spaceship of a winch and I had to learn alot of little things to get it all sorted, took us about 2.5hr to unbox the winch and work thru the small issues.

I never knee the winch would not just work separate, you need a mounting plate for this type of winch as the rope guide will not mount to the winch.

Either way figured I would share some pics.

The winch is mounted to a standard receiver plate. And I mounted a DIY receiver to the bed, just drilled some holes. For now it's using Grade 5 , 1/2" threaded rods because I did not have 4" long bolts, will probably swap those out with some Grade 8 bolts. It was a pretty temporary set up as I was in a bind time wise

@Timd32, Great job for being short on time! Now you need to get a couple of snatch block pulleys that will work with you synthetic rope. They help with loads that may not line up with trailer. Also you might want to have another length of line to connect to load for a longer or weird angle pull. You could also make a pole setup to put in a stake pocket to be able lift over something already on trailer. These are all things that I did when I was picking up lawn equipment to load on trailer. Of course, most the time, none of it ran and was a country mile from were I could put the trailer! I hope that winch has a wireless remote. I wish I had one back in the day!!!!!!!!!! I bet that made picking up and loading "Willy" so much easier!

It does have a wireless remote, it also works if the wireless is dead and is just plugged in, don't have to wait for it to charge up fully.

While the wagon runs and drives it does not stop very well and was low on fuel so we tried to drive it up, but I think we needed a different set up so we abandoned that plan and went to the winch very quickly.

Rain was coming, it was getting dark and I'm pretty green to all this and wanted to be cautious on this set up.

On the 1100 mile trip back, only got one click out of one strap one time, it pulled nice, roads were not always the best. Not knowing if the tires really held air was a concern, I thought if one went low it could loosen the strap. Luckily at 8.5 MPG you don't get very long run times between fuel stops, that helps the less experienced folks figure this out.

Thanks for the suggestion on the snatch blocks, that might help me on one load I have coming up to pull another Willys pick up out of the weeds kinda around the corner of a storage trailer.

Always appreciate the feedback.
