quick question... .

this is my first winter with diesel fuel (although I stopped using the petro-based stuff recently). I knew that diesel prices jumped when heating oil season hit. So when I saw the prices jumping recently they appeared to jumping higher then premium and I though it was a little early for the price jump.

Whats your opinion on what month they usually jump and how high have you seen go over the price of premium gas?

When I started driving trucks in 1970 diesel was $0. 22 and since I was driving coast to coast I could pick my fuel stops and could find it for $0. 18. At that time gas was $0. 35, and it seemed that this ratio, although changed a little was the norm until recently. When I was driving diesel trucks in the 70's and 80's the company paid for the fuel, now that I have to pay for it, diesel is selling for more than premium gas. Maybe I should have kept my gasser that burned regular.

The cheapest Diesel I can find is $1. 99 at the Diamond Shamrock in South Denver, Colorado. If I drive to other parts of town or especially out of Denver into the mountains it's $2. 10 on average.

I'm starting to think about www.greasecar.com  and converting to vegetable oil. I know it works on the 12v Cummins but I'm not sure how it would work on HO Common Rail Cummins as the injection is at much higher pressure.

This is all B. S. and now a barrel of oil is $53... highest ever. A year from now will be even worse... gauranteed due to THE peak in oil production for the world. :--)

I'm enjoying my Cummins while I can. Its just Kerosean for gods sake! I think they should just outlaw unleaded and make everything Diesel if somehow it could get the price under control... but that will never happen. In five years 33% of the passenger cars/light trucks on the road will be Diesel... that's a start.

I just got back the other day from a 1800 mile trip. Highest I saw was 2. 10 (right here in Medicine Lodge, KS) and lowest I saw was 1. 85 (in Oklahoma City, OK and some little truck stop somewhere inbetween Fort Smith, AR and OKC). But mostly it was 1. 90-2. 00 the whole trip.

Here on the MS Gulf Coast it's getting ready to go past 2. 00 I think today it was at 1. 95 still ridiculous I carry 132 gallons and I like to fill up both tanks at the same time. I think that I'm going to have to wait off on that for the time being. According to the EIA website it's because of hurricane IVAN but come on now that was almost a month ago.

Oil now hit $57/barrel. Earlier somewhere here on TDR, someone posted that home heating oil was at 2. 05/gal. If there is supposedly around 40-50 cents a gal added to road diesel, for taxes, why isn't the home heating diesel that much cheaper than the pump diesel? Smells like gouging to me. I too, am sick of lame excuses for the price hikes. You know sure as shootin, that if we all switch to biodiesel, they will find a way to tax that too, and jack the price up, just like dino.

Diesel Fuel Prices?

Wednesday morning diesel fuel jumped from $1. 95 to $2. 05, when in the hell is this going to stop? #@$%!

I filled up yesterday at $2. 35. My question is why is it so much more than premium grade gas? Up until lately it was a few pennys up or down from regular unleaded, now its the most expensive by far than premium grades

60 Cent Swing in 2 Months

Let's see. Two months ago, diesel was 30 cents a gallon cheaper than regular gasoline, now it's 30 cents a gallon more than gasoline... ... AND IT'S A BYPRODUCT OF PRODUCING GASOLINE! Oh yeah, and gasoline has gone DOWN in price, while Diesel has gone UP.

This is out of control. Small business are going to hurt terribly with the price so high. I paid 1. 89 today at the indian reservation, but just down the road, at the "legal" station, it's running $239. 9! Complete and Utter BS!

Of course, I don't hear John Kerry talking about how he'd fix that..... oh wait, we'd be paying an additional 50 cents in tax as well.

It may well turn out that this is the best way to kill a growing economy.

Question, can I run kerosene in my truck when it's cold. (Straight kerosene??)) It's 1. 67 here.....

After all, "Diesel trucks can run on perfume" as my buddy always says.

Expect much higher prices!

I heard at work that privately diesel suppliers expect it to increase 40 to 50 cents (from $2. 15 here today in Nebraska 10-7-04) this winter if we (the US)have a severe cold snap. We buy a lot of #1 diesel oil for use in gas turbines. A small gas turbine/generator can burn 25,000 to 50,000 gallons of #1 diesel EASY in one day. The oil companies made a lot of gas this summer, and are short on diesel and fuel oil. As always, thanks to the EPA and politically correct past presidents and congress, refinery capacity is max'd.

In my town here in Roy, Utah, I filled up on Monday at the local Phillips station for $1. 99. 9/Gallon. Today (Thursday) it is $2. 21. 9/Gallon. WHen I thnk of the truckers hauling all the goods that we consume, I feel for them! If they are getting 5 MPG at $2. 00/Gallon look what they have to pay each time they fill!

Well, the cost of hauling goods to market goes up, so the price of the goods go up, and this helps the economy how????

$2. 50 at arco in orange county, ca. they're more expensive though. i checked gaspricewatch.com and thought i found a nearby station for $2. 11 and jumped on it, but it must have been a couple days old, it was $2. 39 like everywhere else. A specific Shell station has been cheapest lately, regular gas and diesel have been about a dime cheaper then everywhere else, which surprises me.

well i paid $2. 13 a gallon in ct on tuesday wed. morning i drove past saw same station $2. 19... . if this keeps up and diesel isn't much cheapier than gas next year by may or so i'll be looking for a gas truck and this truck will go bye bye not worth paying more than super unleaded i'll take 3-4 mpg less and say . 30-. 40 cents less a gallon

Yeh, I know the feelin', trouble is as soon as you switch the prices wil flip-flop and you'll be paying more for gas and driving a truck that you didn't really want
