Prairie Dog,

I live in Silverdale, Wa. and own a 2003 SRW quad cab 4X4. I changed the 3. 5 to a 4" from Diamond eye exhaust (stainless) with the Donaldson muffler. The tone is more like a big rig outside and quieter inside. I have seen a noted reduction in cab noise while driving on the freeway, the setting on the radio used to be on 11 or 12 and now can be on # 9.

If you are interested I still have the stock tail pipe on the truck but need to change it out soon with the one that came with the kit.

Dave

Now thats the answere to the question! Sounds like a great way to go ~ do you have a good source for them?

Thanks for responding.

Scotty,
I bought the system off of e-bay for $235 + shipp'g. The best I see now is $409 for the same kit @ the Power Store in Seattle. You can call Diamond Eye @ 1-800-635-9950 to get other local dealers, maybe work a better price for just the tubing. If you do you can have the standard clamps that I did not use.
The muff;er I purchased from Williams oil filter service, 1247 Puyallup ave, Tacoma, Wa. (253) 627-8163 or 1-800-522-1250 for $117. 52 +tax

I must have found a dealer who was dropping inventory for the system. I also installed band clamps instead of the standard clamps. This allows me to remove any section for maintenance under the truck.

Great! Thanks for the info. I've spent my recent allowance on towing stuff (hitch, brake controller) so I probably will have to wait for awhile. But thats probably the way I'll go.

I had one of the 090544 mufflers installed. There's a very little bit more sound noticeable during in-town driving, but at highway speeds (unloaded) I believe it's as quiet as stock. I haven't towed with the truck since the install, but I'd be surprised if I don't see at least a small decline in EGTs due to the design. I'll report in again after towing.

it appeared those who used the Donaldson 090535 complained about loudness/drone, where those who used the 090544 didn't.
Since the 090535 is 5" it may be those folks used 5" pipe rather than a reducer to fit onto the stock 4" system. 5" systems drone, I tried one with a quiet muffler and hated it.

After that I went back to 4" using the 090544 and was satisfied on my 03, my 05 is still stock though.

It would be nice to hear from someone who went with the 090535 and stock 4" pipes.

I towed my 5er (12K loaded) about 250 miles this weekend, and I'm extremely pleased with the muffler I added. It was as quiet as stock even on long up-hill pulls, had absolutely no drone, and as best as I can estimate from the past with the stock muffler, it lowered my EGT approximately 75 degrees under load. There are no down-sides to this muffler that I can see, and I expect to be pleased with it for quite some time.

I put an MBRP system on my 04. I did not like the drone when taking off from a stop sign. I bought the Donaldson 090544 and installed in place of the MBRP muffler. Night and day difference. Almost as quiet as stock. The Donaldson 090544 is 4" in and out. The Donaldson 090535 is 5" in and out. I just sold my 04 to a buddy and found an 05 for a replacement. I am going to install a turbo back system from Diamond Eye, since I can order the kit without a muffler. I will get another Donaldson 090544 coming for this truck.

will someone that has this muffler post a picture of the inside of it please. is it a flow through muffler?

It depends on which model number you are talking about. Some of the ones listed have a baffle, and some don't.

can this muffler get stopped up by soot like the factory one?

Yes, any muffler will. But the chambered design isn't effected as easily as the stock system.

If you want the same style muffler as the M090544 but "with out" a baffle then get a Nelson 86131M. If you do a search for that name and number here you will find others using that one.

are they all pretty quiet? i guess the reason i am asking is i want it quiet and free flowing to keep my egt's down, i do have a few mods on the truck and plan to have many more as 500 hp is target

Yes, the M090544 is at least as quiet on the highway and while towing as the stock muffler. There is a very little bit more noticeable tone while driving slow around town, but nowhere near annoying. Yes, the M090544 has a cone-shaped baffle toward the exhaust end of it, but even then the baffle itself has many holes in it and you can clearly see through it out the exhaust end. I've not heard the sound of the baffleless version, but I suspect it will be both somewhat louder and able to decrease EGTs a little bit more than the M090544.

Steve

Regardless of what mods you do, the little 5. 9 motor isn't going to outflow either of these big mufflers as they are designed for much larger cubic inch engines in off road applications.
