Question about posting photos?

Anyone using it?? I have cable at home, am getting DSL at the office. Does DSL work off a regular phone line? If so, can the line still be used for a phone, fax if not logged on to the internet?

Yes, you can use it as a telephone and fax. And I might be wrong but you can use the internet and fax/telephone at the same time. The big plus is that you are not sharing bandwidth like you do on the cable modem. At least that is the way I understand it.

My DSL works good. Only about 400K though. Nice part is it works on all 4 of our computers on the home network at the same time while the daughters are on the phone (most of the time).

I have the XDSL line running into my house (business DSL) it is async, and I get roughly about 2250 download and 760 upload. Plenty fast for me:D. It is a hell of lot more reliable than cable (IMHO) but still not as cool as the T-3 at work. WARNING!!! Once you have felt and seen the speed- you'l never be able to go back to a dial up!!

We have had DSL at home for about 1 1/2 years. I really like it. Download speeds are 640k and upload is 256k. The phone like is still available, and there is no interference between the two. Add an ethernet switch and you have a home network. Because the DSL router uses NAT (Network Adderss Translation), it acts as a fairly secure (at least this is what I am told) firewall. More secure than cable because you do not share a LAN segment with your neighboors. Cost is $10 more than dialup ISP + 2nd phone line.

I'm running DSL and am very happy. Comparing it to dial-up is like comparing television with remote control to the times before you had remote. How did you ever get by before remote control (or microwave oven for that matter)?

My DSL is always connected and running. I just had to install telephone line filters @ each phone, just plug in. I bought my modem off Ebay for $10. It's a SpeedStream 4060. Speeds vary depending on web traffic and site traffic, but I don't avoid 10MB file downloads anymore. Netscape 6. 2 downloaded in about a minute or so. Dial up took better than 45 minutes. I use the phone as normal. Doesn't matter if your online or not.
