I am 1000 km away from an expiring bumper to bumper warranty. I am able to add another 2.5 years and 40000 kms for 2400 $ Canadian bucks.gamble or pay? Opinions please

all my car buddies say dont buy it when you purchase new vehicle....however, i just purchased a 18 2500 last week... during the factory warranty, if i have multiple issues in the future, i will purchase the warranty...they never tell you you can walk in and buy the warranty just before the factory one expires. if your truck has been reliable and warranty free i would not purchase...cheers comrade!

The original bumper-to-bumper warranty does not explicitly provide for loaner vehicles during warranty repairs. If you buy the factory service contract at the beginning, loaner vehicles are guaranteed even under the B2B coverage period. If that's not important to you, that's fine.

Oldroostman, as long as you get the FCA service contract, you're fine. Third-party contracts may not be honored at other dealerships - that can be an issue, especially if you travel often. While many will pay via credit card account number over the phone to any repair shop, dealers still have the right not to do business that way.

You might want to price around for the FCA contract as recommended by KCJackson1. I purchased a genuine FCA contract a month ago for my new 2017 and got an 8 year/125,000 mile bumper to bumper $200 deductible warranty for $1925 from http://www.chryslerfactoryplans.com/. Use code DPACIFICA for a reduction of $365 off the price (yes, it works with any Chrysler product) or DAMON for $200 off the price (you will use it in the Promotional Code section when you check out). You can't make payments with the DPACIFICA code but you'll save a ton by paying for it up front. I've purchased warranties from these guys for years and they are top notch. Bob Cline is a great guys to deal with and on the phone as he and his staff are 100% customer focused.

No, I don't get any discount, fees or promotion from stating this as I'm simply a very satisfied customer who gets a chuckle when I quote Bob's price for a warranty in front of the dealer I'm purchasing the truck from...they always proclaim it isn't a genuine FCA warranty until I show them the site on my smartphone...then they just shake their head and state they can't sell theirs for that price.

P.S. My philosophy on the extended warranty is buy it when it is new and the dealers will always treat you like a king when you take it in for an maintenance or warranty repairs. They see it in the system as soon as they pull up your vehicle's file and you also get the free car rental.

I don't know if two different plans are still available, but make sure its not the lesser of the two FCA extended warranty plans. I made that mistake on my 04.5 2500, only to find out that the lesser plan didn't cover the vent door fiasco the early 3rd gens were plagued with. I wasn't aware of different FCA plans in 04.

Agree 100%. You want to be sure to get the Maximum Care Plus FCA warranty as it covers 99.9% of everything on the truck.

Do not purchase the Added Care Plus or Powertrain Care Plus plans as they cover significantly less than the Maximum Care plan. I've always purchased the Maximum Care plan and have yet to find anything, other than maintenance items, which are not covered.

Maximum Care covers 5007+ components where as Added Care Plus only covers 800+ items and Powertrain Care Plus only covers 400+ items.

I bought a 7 year/70k max care because the people who are on this forum and also service trucks (or used to) at the dealers said it is a good insurance and often pays for itself. I have complaints with my dealership service dept. But no complaints about my maxcare.

Have encountered that too...the simple fix is find another dealer as there are plenty of good ones out there who believe in taking care of the guys who pay the services bill as they know they are the ones who keep the lights on and their paychecks paid.

Basically I’m just trying to decide if 2500 $ is worth 40000 kms, what becomes not covered after the bumper to bumper is pretty much everything that can fail.Sooner or later it’s gonna be off warranty.Electronics are the big one in my eyes.gotta say for the price of these trucks the warranty is a little light.

It does sound expensive. But I think you save money if you buy the max care within the first 4-6 months of the 3 year bumper-to-bumper.

I bought my truck in Sept 2013. I bought my max care in Dec 2013. If I waited to buy my max care in 2016, I hear it would have costed more.

I paid $1840 in 2013 for 7 years/70,000 miles. Not sure what that converts to in Canadian dollars. My 7/70 only bought me 34,000 more miles of coverage. I'm guessing your 40k km is about equal to 30,000 miles since I don't have my miles to km converter in front of me. I also don't know what dealers charge per hour in Canada for service.

Good luck weighing your options.

I know not all trucks are the same, but with the problems I’ve had with my ‘14 this would be a no brainer. Personally, I would never purchase a new vehicle without also purchasing the max warranty available. You may get lucky and never have an issue or you could have my luck and one issue equals the cost of the warranty. Then comes the 2nd, 3rd, 4th... issues that would have been out of pocket. I’ve wasted $2000+ on far more frivolous things than a warranty and got nothing in return.

I’ve always wondered, does the dealer ever offer an extended extended warranty after your extended warranty expires? Also, how/why do some dealers offer lifetime warranties and other dealers don’t?

Lifetime warranties are only available for Chrysler gas engine products. They are not available for diesels.

Chrysler has offered the lifetime warranties since the 1990's but only on gas powered vehicles.

As for buying a warranty and not using it, Chrysler (and Ziegler) offers a full refund at the end of the extended warranty period if you didn't use it. http://www.chryslerfactoryplans.com/warranty_plans/?plan_id=2019 "And if you don't need to use the plan to cover any diagnostic or mechanical repairs during the coverage period (life of the contract), you will receive 100% refund of your Money Back! Guaranteed!"

The following requirements must be met:

No diagnostics or mechanical repairs are performed during the life of the contract.
The customer must be in possession of the plan and vehicle at the time of requesting 100% full refund.
The contract must expire by time (should the contract expire by mileage first, the customer must wait for it to expire by time before applying for 100% full refund.
Customer submits request within 90 days of expiration.

Note: Other plan benefits (Roadside Assistance, Towing, First Day Rental, Car Rental and Trip Interruption) may be utilized at anytime during the plan term without penalty to the "Money-Back" Guarantee offer.

The 2014 trucks must have had production issues, the 2014 service truck I drove was bought back at full price which include the aditional utility bed costs. The company won the lawsuit as well as finding out there were problems not reported before the sale of the 2500 CTD.

After doing quite a bit of research, I have to agree with this. But, I also know it’s not all ‘14’s as gsbrockman has had great luck with his. For mine, mechanically it’s been great. I’ve had a couple problems with electronics and more than a handful emissions issues. Pertaining to the emissions issues, I’m inclined to agree with gsbrockman and bob4x4 that it’s not entirely the truck to blame. It falls back on the dealers/techs in my area that can’t seem to figure out how to fix it.

Yup, I did know this, I just didn’t post it. Still, it makes no sense to me that some dealers offer lifetime and some laugh at you when you ask about it. As competitive as the auto world is, you would think every dealer would jump at this to get people in the door. It’s really hard to buy at your local dealer when another dealer a couple hundred miles away offers the same vehicle with a lifetime warranty.

Lifetime warranty wasn't available in Dec 2013 on the Mopar Vehicle Protection website. I think it was discontinued and not offered to anyone at that time and since that time.

Actually, you can go to chryslerfactoryplans.com and purchase a lifetime warranty on a gas Ram for $3000 with a $100 deductible. If you were referring to a lifetime on the diesels, then you are correct as they ended that program years ago.

Here's my story to having the extended warranty. While on a cross country trip we had a transmission issue. transmission needed to be re-built. It was an 05 Ram 3500 5.9 48rfe. So then I get another call from the dealer. While trying to remove the transfer case it fell apart due to road salt damage. So to end , the transmission was paid for by the warranty , the transfer case wasn't. I paid 3500 bucks to replace the transfer case. It would have cost about 6000.00 if the warranty wasn't in place. Enough said. Roger
