My truck is going on 3 years old and it only has 8500 miles on it because I prefer to drive my old '01. With that said the basic warranty will run out and I don't have anywhere close to 36K miles on it. Has anyone bothered purchasing the extended Mopar warranty? I believe it's approximately $1500 for another 6 years from the day you buy the extended warranty. I've never done this for any vehicle but I've never had a vehicle that I don't drive much.

Let me know if anyone has bothered with purchasing one and your experience if you've had to use it.

My 2016 is the first ever time I've bought an extended warranty. Just saying.

I believe the extended warranty is more for the rest of the truck, and not just for the powertrain but I have to look into it.....seems like quite a few recalls on this truck already so I'm wondering if an extended warranty would be worth it considering my truck will have very low mileage for how old it will be soon. The 3yr basic warranty is almost up

You are not doing the truck it favors in letting it sit that much.

That said, when we bought our 2015 new, we bought the 8 year 120K MaxCare warranty, the first vehicle warranty we ever purchased.

Once while finalizing a purchase of a 2001 Honda Accord my 5th Honda, the closer started talking warranty! I said hold it a minute, what is the big sign on the front of your building? He said what? I again said what is the big sign on the say? He said LYNNWOOD HONDA! I said yes HONDA. That was the end of the warranty sales pitch.

Back to the RAM, ours has 4 or 5 times been in for recalls. The MaxCare warranty gives me a rental car while they have my truck. If I never use the warranty, then I will be happy, if it is needed then I will be really happy that I purchased it. SnoKing

I have to agree with Snoking. I bought it for peace of mind. There are a few reasons to buy it. But of course the cost is a reason not to buy it. You have to make the decision that is right for you.

I bought the 70k/7 year max care warranty for approx $1800. And on average, i am driving it less than 10k per year. I will hit 50k on the odometer in december and have 21 months left in the max care.

A big trip across country we are planning this summer will put us well over that average and we will likely hit 70k in 6 1/2 years.... Or something between 6 and 7 years.

A rear window electronic motor and actuator went out last month even though it had hardly ever been rolled down.....so did the NOx sensor. I don't know if the NOx sensor was covered by the max care or the fed emissions warranty. I think there are alot of cheap mechanical and electrical parts scattered about the body truck like rear brake light seals, latches, knobs, window motors, switches, etc.

You are not doing your truck any favors by not driving it. I will be happy if i don't have to use my warranty. I will be happier if i do need it. So far it hasn't paid for itself. With 2 repairs (window motor and fuel module which would have cost $170 part and labor) and minus the $100 deductible, it probably saved me $400-$500 vs the $1800 that i paid for it. But with 21 months and 20,600 miles left on the max care, it could still pay for itself.

One thing about these warranties..... FCA has negotiated (actually dictated) a cheaper hourly labor price for warranty repairs vs. what they (dealers) charge customers. So i sort of take that into account because FCA pays less to the dealer than what the dealer would charge me for.

Devil black, if you purchase that warranty when yours expires and its a true 6 yrs, GET IT!!! If you get now you are throwing away 1 yr becuz you still have one from factory, that how dirty and shady these dame insurance comapanies are, just my 2 cents, and if you plan on keep that bad boy.

My extended warranty on my 2013 just paid for itself. $2000 computer (ECM) blew and all of it is covered except my $100 deductible. I think the $2000 does not include labor.

They say it will take 3-4 days to arrive. Trying to get a rental which my warranty is supposed to also cover, but this dealership never cooperates. I only use this dealer because it is the nearest to tow to.

I hate this dealer. Aventura Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. They tried to deny me a rental car (this is not the first time they tried to deny me a rental) i don't know why they would benefit from denying me a rental? I have rental car coverage at $35 per day up to $175.

I showed him the coverage on my phone (logged into the MVP site on my phone) and showed him. He still said "no, they g
Have to double diagnose the truck". So my voice was getting louder as i asked to see the service manager and told them i was feeling like blowing up the internet with bad reviews. I told him if he was too incompetent to call for approval, i would. So, he told me to call and as i was on the phone after 5-7 mins of elevator music (on hold) , they miraculously approved my rental

They told me the service writer had left. But i just had seen him run to the back. Geez!

Extended warranties on thses new electronicaly controlled vehicle is not waisting your money and I recommend you buy a FCA warranty. Not related to an extended warranty, but had alternator issues with a 2014 2500 CTD, if it had been out of warranty at the time it failed it would have cost thousands of dollars. Lucky for the owner, FCA had to buy it back undre lemon law. now had zthe 3/36 expired he would of eaten the cost, not FCA. These trucks have complicated issues that can really frustrate the techs, and if it isn't under warranty, its their cash cow.

On my 18 I bought the maxcare 8 year 120k service contract. Cheaper when the truck is new. Bought it online way way cheaper than the selling dealer wanted.
Also had it on my 07 and used it many times and more than paid for itself. It had the 7 year 70k maxcare.
I keep my trucks for at least 10 years. So we'll worth it for me. I don't do aftermarket warranties, only manufacturer.

Not at all. If he gets the maxcare service contract it is pretty much a bumper to bumper. So it will cover items that aren't covered under the 60/100k power train. It will cover the items on the 36/36k. It's a beautiful system. Would never buy a Ram without it. Also it dates back to the in service date. So buying it now or later wouldn't help you. Just costs more later.

Shop around, alot of web dealers will work the deal remote it's a true numbers game, as you might know you don't need to buy from a local dealer ever.

Two of the dealers I have used make a flat fee on the thing so they will match some web prices, I needed to do the leg work. So they didnt care if I went 5/75, 6/100, 7/125, it was all on me to make the decision on the pricing and I matched the pricing online and was real close.

Have done them the day of purchase and we just did one 2yr in. Was a little more expensive since there was a rebate on the initial buy option back then.

This is my best guess of the part they have on order to replace. I hope it comes with at least a 2 year part warranty.

No regrets about the $1850 max care i bought.
See the ECM below from a discount dealer.

My only remaining complaint is they made me approve that they program a new fob to the (old) computer (before they knew it was the ECM). So since i gave them verbal approval for a new key, i can't retract that even though it wasn't the fob..... The fob wasn't the reason the fob wasn't communicating with the truck. Instead, it was a blown computer module. $380 sounds a little steep for a key + programming?????

Are you sure about that “ everything” in bumper to bumper? Last I checked it didn’t cover emissions equipment like the DPF, etc. They’re the most likely to give trouble on a lightly used vehicle and quite expensive to repair since there’s no aftermarket parts available.
I originally thought like you.For the first time in 25 years of Ram Cummins ownership I bought Maxcare for my 15. I might as well have flushed $2K down the toilet.

SMH, please point to me where I said it covers everything? Even the factory warranties do not cover everything. Sometimes I wonder.
I used the heck out of my maxcare on my 07. More than paid for itself several times over. Hell the drivers side mirror replacement alone was 500.00 just for the mirror, covered fully under maxcare. Front wheel bearings, front wheel joints, rear joints, transfer case seal, front pinion seal, steering linkage (not counting the 50 recalls on the warranty linkage), washer fluid sensor, power steering hose, parking brake dash handle. Just items I remember off the top of my head. Oh and had some TSB's performed under Maxcare as well.
I'd have to check on the DPF, I'd be surpised if not covered. I do know most if not all emissions items are covered under maxcare. I'd have to dig out the contract. Even the dash parking brake handle was covered on my 07 which surprised me. So I bought the maxcare for my 18 as well.
Mopar service contracts aren't for everyone. You call it a waste of money, I call it a very wise investment/peace of mind for someone that plans to keep the truck for 8 plus years. Also should add resale value as it is fully transferable to a new owner.
I don't buy aftermarket warranties. Those are super scams. Rarely do you hear anyone having good luck with those.

Sorry, you said covers things not covered by the regular Powertrain warranty, not everything. Emissions? Dig it out. I’ll buy lunch if your right.

My 04.5 had the factory extended warranty, to my surprize it wasn't like the Max Care and I had to pay 50% of the dreaded vent door, which was a compromise because I blew a gasket when I was told the extended warranty didn't cover it.

Please explain the FCA Max Care Plan ,$$ etc and exactly where to go for it . I have a 2017 Ram with less than 20K
