Okay Guys/Gals:



I was very curious about this auction on Ebay and felt compelled to buy; now I am asking for your opinion, as the title sates is it fact of fiction?



Diesel Tip 1: You must drain your engine oil yourself for a minimum of 8 hours to a maximum of 12 hours.

Example: Pull the drain plug and let your oil drain over-night the longer it drains the better. The oil should be drained like this a minimum of 1 month to a maximum of 3 months. For some of you on the “Road”, if you are in a tractor trailer garage you can also request for a “longer drain time”. For example tell them that you want the oil to drain until you return from dinner or overnight. You must use 15W 40 Oil no matter what the temperature is outside. Do not use Synthetic Oil. Synthetic is corrosive to seals; gaskets; etc. it also burns at a higher temperature; pre-maturely wearing out components and vital metal components faster this is a fact don’t let anyone tell you differently. The only place Synthetic oil is safe is within a Jet Engine aircraft travelling at 500miles per hour!



Diesel Tip 2: Go to your local hardware store and pick up the strongest magnet you can find (you will need two) place one magnet on your engine oil filter and the other on your oil drain pan near your oil drain plug. This will keep all the metal debris from flowing back into your motor’s moving parts. When you drain your oil it will simply be drained as it is already at the bottom of you pan.



You can also bid on my good friends Military magnets on ebay. These type of magnets work extremely well under heavy and high heat conditions. Or simply purchase similar ones if you can find them where I stated above at your local hardware store. Thank you very much and good luck as I believe your ride will go much longer before and over-haul. Free extra tip! Put one of those small blue STP Oil treatment bottles in your motor every 2 to 3 months after oil changes it has additives that the Oil Company’s have taken out of Diesel Fuel to help the engines run cooler and smoother and longer…. FACT!!

Most of that sounds false. Our drain plugs already have a magnet on them, so one wouldn't be needed on the pan. I would think by leaving the drain plug off that long would be able to introduce more dirt to the pan with passing winds or just the way dust is in general. If it is something you don't want dust on, dust will find its way there.

I could see there being a problem IF they were leaving 1/2 a gallon in the engine at an oil change... but a cup of oil that has already been in the motor for a few thousand miles? We have all worked on engines that have dripped oil for days after pulling the pan, so maybe leave the plug out for a month? Sounds a little ridiculous to me. I always put magnets in the pan, transmission, rearends etc. but, a magnet only picks up iron & steel. The best filter available is allways a bargin.

#1 is pretty funny. I guess a little more dirty oil would drain out overnight, but if you're that worried about it just refill, start, and redrain it a 2nd time to flush all the dirty oil out. The stuff about synthetics is way off. Synthetics are not corrosive to seals/gaskets at all. It is more effective as a lubricant and this can in turn cause leaks in older seals/gaskets. It burns at a higher temp and that is good, not bad. Burnt oil is not too good for the engine. It's been scientifically proven to lubricate better... there really is no debate on the issue. Also, what does a jet flying at 500mph have to do with my Cummins doing 70mph down the highway? :-laf



#2 could help a little, but as stated there is already a magnet in the drain plug.

I think this gut was pulling your leg, all that was said is a bunch of OWT's.



Doing the oil change when the oil is nice and hot will assure 99% will come out within an hour or so. If you wait three months you may find corrosion in the engine!



The magnet thing is like the device you install in your fuel line to "catalyze" the fuel and improve economy. All B. S.

Its Fiction!!!

When you change your oil it is supposed to be warm/hot. This allows the suspended particles to be drained out. If the oil is cold the particles fall to the bottom and stay there and wait for all that new oil "even if you drained every oz of oil". Magnets are a good deal on filters and on commercial filters they come with really good magnets inside, just cut one open and see. All the rest is FICTION!!!



Oh well it's only money and e-bay needs more... .

I would have to say if someone really wanted their oil clean, then flush it out every oil change, or change is shorter intervals. I don't buy the synthetic deal, amsol is good stuff, and royal purple as well... .

I think 1 magnet is all that is needed. if you just built your engine, I can see the reason to use one for the first couple of oil changes, but after that, it will be almost useless, unless the engine is going south or something.....

If you put a big magnet on the oil pan, doesn't that mean when you drain the oil,,,, the metal stays in the pan... ... stuck to the magnet?



At my place if you leave the drain plug out overnite you have a mouse living in there!

Now I heard of doing all sorts of things to gain HP but damn it Jay you're killing me with that one! :-laf

I end up with this stupid vision of this mouse running like crazy on the crankshaft like it was an exercise wheel... . Extra HP!



It might be cleaner oil but I only see the inside of the engine in my vision and can't tell if there are magnets on the outside!
