Lobsters getting HIGH

Lost Another Good One - Marty Balin

Just to make some of you that care aware, Gail's on his way down to SC to assist in getting you folks some gas stations going. He did this sort of thing when he worked in California on their Disaster relief projects, he's STILL!! just as excited now as he was then about helping people get back to a normal life.

Penny

Penny,

Sorry BIG has to leave Big Sky Country and head to the flat humid sands of the Palmetto state, unless he's in the upstate my favorite part of the state.

Darn nice that BIG volunteers and all that there. Got a feeling NC is the real need based on what hits the news.

Safe travels to BIG and a thanks from his Palmetto state neighbor.

BTW BBQ discussion is grounds for arguments over in these parts. Caution.

HIPPA privacy act prevents health care/disability information to be shared without permission. You simply cannot compile that data without permission from the individual. So, if that One Call that you claim Everyone with a need should make, isn't placed to voluntarily offer that information, you will never gather the data. And, I'm sorry to tell you, not everyone is capable of making that call. It just isn't reality.

I truly feel bad for you at this point. You have yourself so twisted up trying to lay blame, you're missing the reality of big picture. Rescues will always need to happen in a natural disaster, public servants will always put their life on the line for those in need regardless of blame in the events, and no one with any moral compass will deny services to someone that "should have known better".

I still wish you the best of days today! I hope that you can find some level of peace with this situation.

How does a family notifying EMA or dispatch they have special needs violate HIPPA? Our 3 ring 911 binder had notes on several residences as well as which addresses were group homes with multiple clients. Whether it’s mobility, TBI, or another disability the notation informs responders that a priority exists. As do the informational stickers placed on the front door and bedroom window of the person in need. The same with notifying utilities. It gets info to the repair personnel in the field. Just because it doesn’t come with a Fed or State grant doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist or have value.
As far as ability to make that call? If you can call to get bailed out of your bad decision, you can make that call to prepare. None of which has anything to do with my opinion that ANYONE who ignores an evacuation order has no right to ask others to risk their neck to bail them out, and any ranking officer who orders such actions should be fired.

Gary we've been in Indiana for a little over a year, there was a bad fire in Seeley Lake. Gail was offered a job in Indianapolis so while Seeley is rebuilding he thought why not! The company that he works for came to know him from just such disasters as this. He called home and is actually in Augusta Georgia in a Pre-staging area for equipment coming in from other parts of the country going into South Carolina. I could tell talking with him he thrives in these situations and wants to be part of the solution.

I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to split your last post in two for my reply.

I can't disagree with you on the value of collecting this type of data. It would be extremely valuable in pre-planning any number of scenarios that may occur within that specific community or municipality. The key is voluntary. If you can get the members of your community to provide that info to your agencies, that is great. Hippa applies if you would be requesting that information from insurance companies, health care providers, mental health, etc. I'm not sure how it would be possible to collect that information on a voluntary basis and get 100% participation.

Let's assume for a second that you are 100% correct and everyone that required rescue in this most recent storm made the choice to stay and that there was not one single "innocent" person left behind. Does that really matter in the end? Does their completely ignorant decision give you or anyone the right to leave them there to die when we have the means by which to save them? The answer is NO. It is unethical to even consider such a notion. Even the most base of societies unite to save one of their own. This is America and we are better than that.

The reason that people go out and risk their lives for these people isn't because those "guilty" people asked, it's because of their sense of duty. It's that duty and dedication to what is true and will always be true.....that life is precious and we will do anything to protect it. Some are driven by faith, some are driven by passion for life, and maybe some are even driven by the prospect of glory. But, they are driven. And if you ask them if they would do it again, their answer would be a resounding yes.

This.

Having lived for 38 years in a town with an all-volunteer FD and having several family members active (my ex-wife was an EMT, my uncle was a company captain for almost 30 years), there isn't one that I've met that wouldn't do their job regardless of whether the victim is worthy or not. It's no different than the drug addicts and drunks that are "repeat" customers. When they go down EMS picks them up... again and again. Regardless of the how's and why's, it's the right thing to do.

Nobody I know that wears a badge of any kind would stand by and let another human suffer.

Too bad you choose to ignore the fact your actions perpetuate the very behavior you’re dealing with. But then again, that very behavior is what makes you relevant and helps build the empire. Why would I expect anything else.

Are you saying you wouldn't help a fellow man in need regardless of his circumstances?

It is so unfortunate that you have fallen for the trappings of this secular society and hardend your heart to your fellow man.

I will pray for you. I will pray that your heart will be open to God's mercy and love.

Please have a good day today.

Interesting thread regarding who is worthy of rescue.

In my younger days (can't believe it is almost forty years ago now), I was a person whom jhenderson would characterize as one of the undeserving who perpetuate the problem. People came into my life who did not look upon my character at that point and instead extended the hand of friendship and help. I am glad someone chose to "rescue" me rather than look upon how unworthy I was at that time.

Romans 5:7-8: It is rare indeed for anyone to die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

I believe what he was talking about was rescuing at great peril to your own life, someone who had been told to mandatory evacuate a dangerous situation. But that person decided not to evacuate just because they didnt want to. But expects someone to rescue them while the mandatory evacuation is in effect. Not the same thing you are referring to.
My opinion is that if a VOLUNTEER wants to rescue that person, go ahead on your own dime. And, the rescuee should be fined big time.

Thank you. It’s unbelievable how some people will not just twist others words but outright fabricate them out of whole cloth. Too bad they can’t discuss an issue on its own merits rather than lie in order to bolster a weak argument for their point of view.

Who's lying?

I ask again... are you saying you wouldn't help a fellow man in need regardless of his circumstances?

Your not talking about what I said. You’re using totally unrelated examples to divert from the issue. Theiving politicians call it spin. Honest people call it lying when someone attributes comments or motives not used or intended by subject who is having words put in their mouth.
I’d be pretty ashamed of invoking the Bible or Prayer when using those despicable tactics.

Penny,

Didn't know about the fire. I missed a lot of TDR time due to password issue and busy days. At least IN had darn good sweet corn in the summer. But no mountains. Hope BIG gets some tanker time and all works out.

1. I didn't put any words in your mouth.
2. I never invoked anything.
3. Exactly what did I say/do that was despicable?
4. Are you saying you wouldn't help a fellow man in need regardless of his circumstances?

You ignored what I did say and insinuated scenarios not in discussion. 4 is the prime example. I said a specific set of circumstances. You accused me by way of example of far different intent. That makes what you said a lie. As I’ve said, and you’ve ignored multiple times, any fire or police chief who orders men or women into harms way to rescue people who ignored an evacuation order should be fired. I also said people of your opinion exacerbate the problem. Why would anyone do as they’re told when they know if they don’t someone else will come get them anyway? Personal responsibility? Not on your watch. Bring that into the equation and they might not need you . It’s them calling you that keeps up the run numbers, which bolsters the budget request, which expands the empire. Which is after all, the main political goal of any Executive Officer or EMA director. That’s 1st semester in a Municipal Management ( manipulation) baccalaureate degree.

Moses didn't sit around and say "This suffering is God's will." He did something about his people's suffering and had to do an unbelievably impossible task of literately parting the waters to do so.

Just saying Evacuation Order then = go with Moses or stay behind as a slave?

ten-commandments-photo-u1.jpg

JDoremire, Mo parted the waters? Surely you jest! It wasn't Mo's idea to go set the Hebrew children free. His excuses bout got hisself "slapped around" (Exodus 4:14) and he got an attitude adjustment. (Next subject) When Cuber had a storm and Feedel and the boys said "Vacuate", what did the people do? Guess what ? No casualties! At least that Commie dictatorship had one good talking point. As we watch this country do its best to unravel, it is time to remember that all forms of government ultimately fail except for one-- A kind and benevolent kingship, which will be when King Jesus rules. (Next subject) I wonder how it would work to require all who decide not to evacuate to furnish a good credit card number or be given an "easy payment plan schedule" if they stay. Let them pay for their gamble if they lose. What does it cost to run a rescue chopper per hour? Sometimes if a person can't think with his head, his right back pocket can greatly aid his decision making process! Enuf for one nite!

We didn't loose any property with the fire in Seeley just the beauty. Gail won't be driving in SC he's coordinating incoming supplies and equipment. He finally got fed-up with the unrealistic DOT regulations and gave driving a Desk a try, I might be bias but he's done a Fantastic job in this transition being a driver for 30+ years gave him a better understanding than someone that hasn't. I know he'd rather be face to face with the people that need help but is happy to just be a part of the effort.

I was looking today and a little surprised at how rivers are continuing to rise and how much flooding continues. Reading that it will happen and then looking at pictures of how the water rises up to the bridges over three days are different realizations.

Tremendous loss of farm poultry (millions); hog losses seem far, far fewer.

Finally, tremendously encouraging to see the number of animals rescued. I particularly liked the instance of the Coast Guardsmen and the seven beagles they loaded onto their boat (I admit to a great deal of bias here as a former Coastie). Found a great video of a couple of horses being rescued.

God bless all who are helping in any manner and thanks/prayers.
