As some will note this may seem an odd question as my handle is 1stgen4evr. None the less, I have been telling everyone I encounter about the TDR web site. I stumbled onto it by accident while looking for answers regarding Dodge problems on my first gen trucks. It has become a resounding success for me in solving the questions I had. It is an amazment to me how few (0) owners that I have found that know of the site. In my pushiness to tell everyone I see at fuel pumps etc, I ran into this yesterday.

A guy who is just the operator of and not the owner of a 2000 model manual transmission regular cab Dodge had this to say. I pull this equipment which weighs 16,000 lbs and I only get nine miles to the gallon. The company has a Ford that gets better mileage and has more power. I wish this one would puke and I would get a new Ford.

Total weight must be close to 25,000 but is under CDL. My brother has a 97 and a 2000 and I think that he does somewhat better with his mileage. Working as hard as the truck obviously is, is that typical mileage or isn't something wrong with his truck.

Regarding the membership drive, get the word out, be pushy, The more folks we have in the forums, the more information we will have in the pool of knowledge. Copy the windshield leaflet but put it in their hands. Tell them about TDR. Yeah, I know that we are going to make someone rich as six foot into a manure pile but so what if we get the info we want.

Who knows........

My truck weighs in at 10. 5K lbs and with the utility bed the aerodynamics are worse than stock, that combined with my right foot give me about 11. 5 MPG.

The wifes 2002 gets 17-18 MPG when she drives and about 14-15 when I drive, that's got to tell you something. :D :D

The grass is always greener on the other side. If that guy gets a Ford he'll wish he had the Dodge back.

Many years ago I was complaining to a mechanic that my car wasn't getting as good mileage as a friend's. What could I do? He said, "You can do what your friend does. Lie about it!"

I suspect if the Ford is pulling as much weight as he says, there's a bit of exaggeration going on.

Towing whats in my signature and in third direct I get nine miles to the gallon.

Towing whats in my signature and in OD I get 10. 8 miles to the gallon.

When towing with the HO from MD down to KY through WV, had about 1200 lbs, in the bed, and had a full deck steel car trailer towing the Lil' Red and through WV got about 12. 5 mpg @ 75mph. Once I got into flatter territory and refeuled the milage increased to a healthy 14. 5-15 mpg @75 mph. Don't know exact weight, but figure the truck is like 3? and the trailer is 2?. Never got on any scales, but I'm sure someone on here could give you a better idea. Towed it again recently from Nashville to Fort Knox, without the weight in the bed, and got right at 15 mpg @ 75mph.

The Cummins acted like there was nothing back there, honestly, sometimes I would look in the rear view and think "Man that guy in good looking truck, is following close";) That guy will be wishin he had that Dodge/Cummins back after he tows with that Phurd.

God Bless, James

Guess I should be a little more serious than I was earlier. I gross over 15,000 when I'm traveling. At 2200 rpm I consistently get more than 13 mpg. I've done more than 15 on several occasions with optimum road/wind conditions (that's a 96 with a 4:10 and a 5 speed).

Towing a 7000 travel trailer (brick on wheels), while grossing 15000 lbs. , I'm getting 12. 5 mpg at highway speeds. Sounds like that guy is a "Ford Believer" hence is living a lie. Nothing is going to change his mind.

my truck weighs 8000 and I tow a 11,500 Travel trailer that is a toyhauler. I get about 10 -12 if on flat road but if there are some hills, 9-11 is the average for me.

On my 3500...

I get approx 15 MPG empty (weighs a 10,100 lbs) with 100 gal fuel and all the stuff in my tool boxes. Towing my 16,500 lb 5th wheel, I get about 10MPG.

Considering how I drive (read lead foot), I'm real happy.

fuel mileage

Thanks Guys

I guess with a lead foot and a really loaded trailer, that is probably all he gets and considering that he has to go off road a bit at job sites. But like one of you said, bet the ford won't do any better under the same loads and roads.
