O. K. I've decided on the manufacture for my first set of gauges. I'm looking at EGT, Boost, and trans. Thinking of diff gauges another possibility. Should I get just a trans gauge, or should I get a diff gauge also? What temp range should I look at getting? 100-280, 140-320?

How about boost? 0-15, 0-30, 0-35, 0-40? To many decisions, and not enough quarters available to toss. :confused:

For your oil temp guages, use two sending units and a switch to monitor both. Once you have a baseline, you will know when you will want to be looking at either one or both and what to expect.



For boost, more (ability to read higher) is best. Forget 0-15, to low period. 0-30, not much space for improvement (more mods to make more boost, it happens).
 
0-40 on the boost gauge for sure. With a 0-300 AT temp gauge you can add just add another sender and a switch and monitor intake temp. I'd go for a fuel pressure gauge before I would differential temp. In fact I'd go for fuel pressure before I would boost, it's very important. Want to borrow another quarter?;)
 
Here's what I use and am very happy with the results, have not had one problem. Trans temp runs about 120 on freway and 150-180 in traffic and towing. Boost reaches 31 when I get on it. About 1000 on EGT up long steep hill, on it. I changed my bulb covers so they match my dash lights (blue). Used the pillar as a replacement not a cover. Well good luck. I will be getting a Fuel Pressure gauge next.
 
Go with the 140-320 temp gauge if you are putting the sender in the line going to the cooler. For readings from the pan the 100-280 would be fine. My sender is in the cooler line and I have seen it over the 250 limit on my autometer. This is on a stock truck not towing anything. It is lame not knowing how hot it realy got. You just now it got over 250. :(
 
AutoMeter has a batch of pyrometers in circulation that condensate internally on the lens. I would assume that the other internal parts are wet as (a) well. :(

I have my temp sender in line and have never seen it that high wow, I even drive in LA traffic stop and go and it only reaches 180 or slightly over if stopped for a real long time. For the fogging problem I guess I've been lucky, only happened once on one gauge and never again since. Any way good luck on your decision. :cool: :D :)
