yeah, but I have the 12" in the SRW model, hence the confusion, but back then I think John said the 75W90 was fine as is was only needed for the heavy towing that is expected given the ratings on the DRW?

how do you know youve got the 12? i was under the impression atleast some or perhaps all srw was still using 11.5 gears ,albeit in the new 12 housing. cant remember where i read that and no i havent verified the accuracy

All SO motors get the 11.5 and all HO motors get the 12.0. That’s true for SRW and DRW.

11.5" is gone a long time ago and was replaced with the 11.8" gears in the same housing.
Now we got the 12" and from what I know Ram isn't using two different axle housings.

The 11.8” and the 11.5” did coexist. The HO DRW’s with 3.73 or 4.10 got the 11.8” axle until 2019. My 2018 HO has the 11.5” R&P, but had I gotten a DRW it would have the 11.8” as long as I didn’t have 3.42’s.

Now the only two axle are 11.5” and 12.0”, so the 11.8” is gone.

The housings are indeed the same, but the size of the gears depends on what motor the truck has.

I believe the 11.8” and 12.0” OEM gears also use more ring gear bolts, but not all years for the 11.8” as I’ve also seen aftermarket 11.8” gears for the 11.5” carrier.

You think it would be easier to have one carrier and one gear size.

That's what I have in my old Truck, an 11.5 carrier with 11.8 aftermarket 12 bolt gears.

Exactly my thoughts, and why I’m not putting a Mag-Hytec on this truck. Also, 8 quarts of gear lube isn’t cheap

I had a MagHytec on my 2500 98 and to do it again I wouldn't waste the $$$, same goes for the fancy one that I had on my 11 HO DRW with the Geno's "Exclusive" sight glass.

She has the new larger housing for the 12.0” R&P so it will hold more just based on that. The HO will hold less than the SO.

I had thought that too, but the brochure states that 3.42’s were still 11.5” R&P’s. See my post #44 above. It specifically states Aisin DRW’s with 3.42’s had the 11.5” R&P.

His 15 HO will hold the same as my 18 HO, which is more than your HO with 4.10's. We have a smaller ring gear so it takes up less space in the same housing.

Same housing on all 3 trucks, with the same fill level. The more you fill the housing with gears and the carrier the less fluid it will take to fill.

The SRW 2500 w/o LSD will hold the most and the HO 3.73/4.10 DRW will hold the least.

This is why I think the Aluminum diff cover should have given the same capacity of more with a truck that is designed to tow a lot more weight.

But hey my BIG BAD AZZ Truck is less expensive to maintain.
