and this is why i read random posts and follow up on this thread. Truck has 195k miles and still on the factory fan clutch and setup but this will help me out very much when its time to replace it.
I've learned that some parts houses, O'Reilly in particular, loan out tools like that needed for the job with only a deposit for the value of the tool, refundable on return. Going in to pick one up this morning.

SUCCESS!

Within an hour of coming home with the borrowed tools from O'Reilly, the fan clutch was off. I used their 36mm wrench with a large box wrench of my own to serve as a cheater bar. I was a bit nervous that the essentially 1/4" bolts holding the pulley might sheer off with the torque of the long wrench but they held. The holder I had made worked well to hold the pulley while I loosened the 36mm nut. The new water pump is in and I'm ready to install the new clutch. I saw a YouTube video that suggested removing the shroud to improve access. It was a squeeze but taking that off did give me more working room.

Thanks to all for all the advise and encouragement. TDR had come through once more.

Dont forget to recheck the small pulley bolts.

Just in case they loosened in the process.

Never hurts. Mine came loose and it was a mess, pics in this post above.

Great info here. Replaced fan clutch yesterday. Once I locked the pulley in place by hooking a tie down strap in one of the pulley holes it was cinch. Friction from the Drive belt was not enough hold it in place. Had to find a tie down strap that had the hook protruding out. Used the Lisle tool mentioned above. And Like others had mentioned here on my 2011 it came off counter clockwise.

I can loan you my set, can ship out tomorrow you would probably see then early next week.

When done pop them back in the box and drop off at a FedEx.

I don't know if you need to borrow that turning tool as well or you grabbed one.

Mine are sitting idle for a while. Plus I have a spare turning tool in a speciality set I picked up a while back.

Let me know you can PM an address.

That's a really generous offer! However I'll wait until I can get my own set. Thanks again.

'89-'02 are left handed threads... '03 to ??? Are threaded the same as a "normal 36 mm bolt"...

Specific tools will probably be easier than a pry bar, crescent wrench, and a hammer...

Received the wrench set from Geno's late yesterday. It would be nice if the handles were longer, rather than only . The wrench that goes on the pulley nuts does not want to stay in position either. Not impressed.

Air hammer may be next.

Go back to the first thread and look at the pictures. That tool is tricky to hook on. Took me a while to figure out.

It is little tricky. Air hammer loosened it.
