Finally got my 2wd getrag completely torn down and the much needed, highly awaited 1-2 synchro assembly (thanks DP). Where is the best place to get ALL bearings, synchros, shims and snap rings? I guess my main question/need is the speed/needle bearings and the snap rings. I know about all the places that sell the other bearings, shims and synchros. But who has the needle bearings and snap rings? I damaged two snap rings, one big, one small, so I figure I'd replace them all if I can get them. My needle bearings (the ones that ride between the mainshaft and gears) were worn pretty bad too. Starting to think this wasn't a very good donor truck:mad:.

BTW, I can get all the other bearings and races locally for $103, all in stock minus one, although that seemed to be about the going rate from the ebay vendors. Thoughts?

Good luck finding the large snap ring for the counter shaft. Zumbrota said they did not have that part number. Sadler Power Train said it was in a hardware kit, so I ordered the kit, and it was not in there either. Its easy to get the small snap rings, but the big one proved to be difficult. Try and not damage them. I think a guy is going to have to find a company that has a snap ring book, and then cross reference it to find one like it. I would prefer one that is slightly thicker, and heavier if possible. If you pry on the countershaft hard enough the stock one will flex. I kinda wonder if that play havioc sometimes in setup/driving.

I've never ordered speed bearings or needed one. I've never asked about them either. Sorry about that.

I lost you the other night Bill, did you get your buddy's half ton figured out yet? I've got a pile of 8 lug dana 60's if he wants to upgrade, and a CAD 8 lug dana 44. ;)

3rd gear needle br 28. 65 or kit 50. 90 at drivetrain Specialist of Los Vegas.

Nice informative site. I ordered a countershaft from them. They have more than standard brs kits.

I order brs, seals, gaskets, in kit from Zumbrota. Buy it now is $111. 69.

Craig will also sell you individual parts.

After months of leak free driving my rebuilt Getrag, it now has developed a serious leak in area of that rubber plug at front of cluster shaft!!

Michael, it wasn't the big countershaft snap ring. That one came out easy. It was one of those funny rings on the mainshaft holding a gear in place, not sure which one at the moment.

Looks like I'll be making some phone calls to round up everything. Seems like one of our members had pics of ALL the bearings (needle bearings as well) in his gallery. The thread said he got them from Quad4x4. I'll probly call them first as I seen he also had a bag of snap rings.

I would've liked to order two of everything as my 4x4 getrag is about done for, but looks like this will be big bucks. I might just have to bag up all my 2wd gears and lube them up with gear oil to prevent rust. Then pull the 4x4 transmission and rebuild it first as it's actually a driver and not a project in the making transmission. After my latest upgrades, it doesn't wanna go in any gear sitting still:mad:. It takes some searching to find a gear to line everything up:rolleyes:.

Oh, yes, I see now. I have not needed one of those rings. Sorry bud. Don't have any spares either. Good luck finding parts for your getrags. I'm still looking for a good 4x4 spare.

Well, got two bearing kits and one synchro kit ordered from Z-Bag. They didn't stock new needle bearings only good used:-laf, I told him I had that already! We got to talking about them and I think mine are ok. I'll clean them up good and inspect them closer. Only reason I thought they were bad was there was a large build of sludge on them. I'm told this can be from the fluid not being changed very often. Also they wanted something like $50 each:eek:.

Oh and I got to looking at my getrag parts leftover from that rusty core I took apart and evidently I didn't damage any of the snap rings in it:cool::cool:. So I won't be needing any of them now.

I look forward to adding to my sig, "Member Getrag Preservation Society".

Bill are you sure you don't have a hydraulic problem, not releasing all the way maybe?

This latest issue could very well be. But my trans about 5 years ago started howling in 5th gear. For about the past year it howls in most gears. It's a hand grenade no doubt. I feel somewhat comfortable with the ole Getrag 360 now so it needs to be taken care of.
