Got the truck, now I need fenders.

I finally picked up my new Ram 3500 chassis cab last night. What a great truck.

Now I need to do something about those rear tires. I don't even have mudflaps yet. I don't plan to add a flatbed until mid summer. In the meantime, I'm going to build a wooden box on the rear part of the frame and fill it with sandbags for some weight.

Does anyone have any suggestions where to look to find some simple fenders that will go over the rear wheels (dually of course)? I just don't want to have the rear of the cab all dinged up from flying rocks until I get the bed on. I figure I can attach them to the sides of the wooden box.

david , just make them out of wood also , or try and find some fenders from a stepside pickup bed .

I'm in the process of making a flatbed for my 3500 rt now and simply used sheet metal as fenders until I can complete the remaining items. Atleast I can use the truck without stones flying all over, but surely wouldn't win any prizes at the car show.

What I did was weld up two brackets for each side (1/2 inch angle iron butt welded to flat stock)and bolted the flat stock to holes that were already in the frame. From that point I bent the sheet metal in front and back allowing for the top to be flat. This comformed with the tire somewhat and attached to the welded brackets with 1/4-20 bolts and nuts. I left the back a little long, about 7 inches off the ground for clearance. The width was cut to 19 1/4 inches to cover the duals. Although I used a Brake to bend my sheet metal, it is easily done by bending it over a 2X4 or a piece of metal. A small hammer or mallet will assist in making the bend.

Wood is also a good temporary choice, but you still need brakets of some sort or you could connect it to the wooden sand box you are making. Hope this helped with an idea. Dave

You could also try the quater fenders off of a big rig that are designed for that. Just my $. 02 #ad
