Have been checking out either to make biodiesel or use Veg oil. Any one know much about the veg. thing. I like the fact that you can just filter it good and put it straight into the separate tank. Any one using these kits from Greasecar. Let me hear the pros and cons.

I just spent a couple dayw sith a biodiesel maker, he is using the processed fuel, costs more and is more work. I quizzed him at length, and his choice was because he lives up near the Canada border, and it gets COLD there, too cold for waste veggie oil, that is his reason. Down where I live that would not be an issue at all, and I still prefer WVO at this point in my decision making. He left me a bottle of his best brew, I sat it in the freezer and despite his claims, it is about the same consistency as Crisco. It is SUPPOSED to be the equivelent of B100. Cutting it with ethanol or pump gasoline will help keep it liquid at cooler temps I understand.
 
I have a friend that uses the Frybird system in his wife's Mercedes and his '97 CTD.



His biggest complaint is that for 'round the town trips in either vehicle, the heating process of the WVO in the winter doesn't get it up to temp in time to switch from petro-diesel to WVO before he/she is at their destination and has to shut down. So very little WVO is used. Only on longer trips does it work for them. In his newer Mercedes he's going to just run bio-D and skip the WVO system.



I've done a lot of reading about WVO vs bio-D in modern diesel engines. The consensus seems to be that there are long term problems running WVO. I'll stick with my bio-D.



Don/TX, I know that bio-D will thicken and cloud up in cold temperatures, but I ran "B66" all winter long this year and my truck sits out all night (albeit plugged in with a timer that comes on about 3 am). But it started right up and got me to work on mornings where the temp was 12 to 13 degrees and my test jar that sets next to the truck with my B66 mix was cloudy and thick.

I am still studying (like the greasecar system best so far). I have never found ANY of the "long term problems" you refer to, can you give me a link to that information? On the contrary, I have heard only just the opposite, longer life of all components with WVO!

Part of my reason for choosing the 97 12v was the future ease of converting to WVO. My problem is just the opposite, I never use the truck for local trips, and when going off for thousands of miles, where will I get and process the WVO on the road?
