Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Hard Start... Haze in the gas tank.

I've been having a hard start problem. Most times It will turn over... everyonce in a while I will have to bleed the line. I thought it was the check valve on the return line from the VP. However, there is a hissing coming from the gas tank like and when I take off the gas cap there is noticable pressure, and a smoke or haze that is in the tank. I tried searching for threads to remedy this, but could not find any... ... ... Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks ~Bill

I had the same issue with mine, the problem was traced back to the copper washer on one of the injectors. Here is the thread.

BTW - mine had a lot of carbon build-up on the injector and was a pain to remove - until I figured out that I could use a long bolt from the intake horn, a flat washer, and a deep-well 3/8 drive socket (I forget, but I think it was 15/16"). See attached photos.

3/17/2009 @193,000 miles on the truck. Last oil change 5/14/2005 @129,000.
Amsoil Series 3000 5w30 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil, dual remote filters (bypass & full flow) with oil analysis. I change the filters & top off the oil about once a year.

While I had the valve cover off for this job, I checked the valve adjustment. All were within spec. The valves lash on this truck has NEVER been adjusted!
