Has anyone been able to cram 5" under there yet?

I've noticed that the biggest pipe that I have ever seen on a first gen in 4". Has anyone been able to cram 5" under there yet?



The biggest downpipe I have seen for first gens is a 4", so it wouldn't be a true 5", but it would be close enough.



Is the spot by the transfer case the spot that you can't fit 5"... what are the other tight spots?

Well, it was bound to happen. Somebody had to come along and upset the apple cart.



I have read where converting from stock 3" to a free flowing 4" has lowered egt along with an increase of say 6 or 7hp. I can justify that. But,what do you expect to gain here.



I will attempt to fab a 4" down pipe for myself when the truck is pulled from the winter moth balls. I don't expect to gain much by replacing two foot or so of 3".



I'm not concerned about the 4X4 box. It shouldn't be too overly difficult to do, but I would think 5" even for an engine pushing 500 HP would be over kill.



Your still pushing a ton of exhaust through the turbo causing drive (back) pressure.

I was just curiouse... I'm planning on putting a 4" custom system on to duplicate what I have now (splits and dumps in front of both back tires)



I have no intention of putting a 5" system on... that is overkill as you said.



I will put 5" tips on though...

I have made plenty of 4" 1st gen down pipes in our shop and they do make a difference and sound great. I plan to build a complete 5" system shortly as I'm closing in on building my engine with twins and all the PDR goodies. Can't let Piers have all the fun

Does Piers have a mandrel bender?

We won't be making 5" downpipes for the 1st gens and no we don't have a bender at the shop. 4" is tight anough and requires a 3"-4" adapter plate and 4" V-clamp also.

I wasn't talking about downpipes, but actuall exhaust systems.



But anyways, is PDR the only place that handles 4" downpipes?

Mark - I knew you were in the process of fabing a 4" downpipe, but I didn't realize you were marketing them! Dare I ask how much this would set a guy back?

I'd be interested in one of those 4" downpipes too. Was gonna run 3" on my rig, but 4" would be better (It's just a straight run about 10-15 feet back, then one 90-degree turn to dump out the side).

I have an exhaust rattle under my truck, my exhaust pipe is rattling against my T case and it's stock, anyone else had this problem?

I had a rattle under my truck when I had my exhaust re-done.



Until I could have it fixed, I went and got some steel wool and hose clamps. I put the steel wool between the pipe and what it was rattling against, and clamped the steel wool in place with the hose clamps.



I would go have it checked by a muffler shop. And while they're at it, I would suggest making your truck another "muffler free zone".
