How heavy was his load? It seems everyone with 4. 10s love it and everyone with 3. 73s love it... Maybe the 6. 7/auto makes any gear work.

maybe true for the 6. 7, but as someone with an '03 5. 9 with 4. 10's, I've regretted it for 4 years! The level of torque relative to my under 10,000lb loads, is such that I've never needed addtional gearing to enhace performance, especially at the cost of fuel efficiency. Needless to say, I ordered 3. 73's for my '07. 5

As I said in post #94 the fiver weighs 14K without the lift and Harley. He didn't take the bike with him. The truck hasn't been weighed yet. Maybe someone out their has weighed a 7. 5 SRW 3500 Laramie QCSB. I think his 2003 weighed about 7300 without passengers. He had 4 adults along so I would guess he was right at 22K gross. Hopefully he will get to weigh it with the new truck soon.

Everywhere you go around here it is up or down hill, and l love the 4. 10's I really guess it has more to do with where you drive.

81/21???

He also told me to remember 81/21. 81 mph equals 2100 rpm with the 3. 73 and he said again he wouldn't have a 4. 10.

That is amazing. For me, it is 70/21. Of course, I am running the G56 with 3. 73. Hard to believe the 68RFE makes that much of a difference. If so, I made the wrong call on the transmission.

The 68RFE is a dual overdrive transmission with a 6th gear ratio around 0. 63:1. .

I live in Louisiana. You can't find a hill to save your a#$. My 98 12 valve 2500 had the 4. 10 and my new 07. 5 has the 4. 10 also. My 98 got up to 13 mpg with an 11,000 pound fifth wheel. The 07. 5 3500 only has 5,000 miles so it is still too early to tell, (plus the new fifth wheel weighs 15,000#'s). Do I need the 4. 10 gear, probably not, but it sure comes in handy when pulling long mountain climbs while traveling around seeing this beautiful country of ours. It's a matter of each individual's personal preference, and/or need.

:)

Just an update... . sorry haven written in so long... Well everything was great for about 2 weeks, then while on a trip to Dallas my check engine light came back on. . Im getting about 7 different codes now, P0148,p0087,p2080,p2084,p0847. I bought a scanner & cleared them but the light comes back on in about 50 miles... Then while fueling I noticed that the whole truck is covered with diesel underneath... My injection pump is leaking... .

Mc

MC you made the right choice in the long run. 2 things in this life you really need! (1) Dodge Cummins (2) 4. 10 gears ((maybe 3. 92)) but you can't get them from the factory. If you got those 2 you are in heaven.

St. Peter will let you in with either.
