I too checked on making an extra dollar. My insurance guy is a friend and neighbor, one house over. He said it would be very expensive just guessing(2000-3000) a year. 42 year old clean record. I wanted to pull yachts and cigar boats to Florida from a dealer in Houston. He said I need a million dollar bond and a 100,000 worth of cargo insurance before I hook onto one. To make money you wold have to be a full timer. With me wanting to do it part time and in the summer when school is out I don't see how I could make anything.

Those limits are the minimum for a commercial policy. It really isn't that expensive. I'm paying $230 a month for regular insurance and it is only $280 a month for the commercial. My work will reimburse me for the insurance ( I need it for the day job) but you still have to consider the amount you get paid for the hauling. Unless you are getting around 90 cents per mile, you really aren't doing yourself any favors. Most hauls give you a percentage of the load or a flat fee to haul the trailer. If you can afford the insurance, the few months available in the summer might be worth while, if you don't mind the traveling.

DDPCFC, I am also 22, But i do have my CDL, i got it when i was 20. Its only a Class B for a truck with Hydro brakes, But another guy i work with has a Class A with Haz Mat and Endorsments for Tank, Doubles and Triples. He has had all of those but haz mat since he was 18, i do believe you have to be 21 to have haz mat on your license. Even though i drive a 35K truck FULL(About 425) batteries on it i do not have to have a haz mat license... beats the hell outa me #ad
Good luck

I'm only 22 with a brand new truck in a very congested city where everyone has wrecks. Makes for a very high premium. I also carry the highest limits I can.
