I'm hoppin yall could help me out. I'm lookin for a headache rack for my 06 but I'm kinda picky about it. I want a beefy one with the red and white lights on each side at a diagonal. I've seen plenty around but I want one that only sticks above the cab an inch or two. Most I've seen stick up pretty far and look real goofy in my opinion. Does anybody know of a company that builds something like i'm looking for? Thanks yall

Trouble with the Ranch Hands are that they rise above the cab more than I'd like, I'm also not crazy about their mounting style. The one's I've seen the mounting rails bolt onto the rack, I'd prefer one piece. The other two yall showed me look great... ... ... but aluminum headache racks? Realy? I suppose the reduced weight would be nice, but I think I'll stick to steal when it comes to protection parts. I didnt notices either of those websites offering powder coated steel products, did I not look hard enough?

Pro Tech

It took me a while to find the ideal headache rack - I finally found Pro Tech - They are Aluminum, are available with many features, and are very well made. You see a lot of them in the Pacific Northwest - I'm very pleased with the fit and finish on mine.

If it were me I would ask around about just having a decent welding shop fab one up like you want... I bought a truck from down in Dallas and it had a custom headache rack on it... I love it, has the stop/turn and reverse lights (use all LED lights for these, talk about bright), it has full lenght rails and 1/4" angle iron for adding support for the bed front, it is one solid unit. will try to get a pic later, snow blowing around like crazy right now.

Yea that looks great on your truck! I jsut dont think aluminum is the thing for me. But dang that's a nice rack.

bnbrown, that sounds a bit more along the lines of what i'm lookin for, I may have to do just that if I dont find what I'm lookin for on the market.

DMontagna, I'll look into them also. Thanks

I found a pic, it is all tread plate steel on the outside surfaces, the rails are square tube, pretty heavy gauge and there is 1 3/4" between the bottom of the rail and top of the treadplate (quite handy since a 2x4 fits through there perfectly).

I also had mine custom made by a friend.

It is up a little higher than the cab because there will be a mini LED lightbar installed there for response to the FD. I wanted a nice light mount without sacrificing the load carrying capability like other racks do.

They have a headache rack listed that may fit the bill for you. Keeps close to the cab but does have side tabs.

The aluminum one should be fine. If your load shifts hard enough to get into the back of the cab through that aluminum you will have bigger problems to worry about anyway. the steel will just stretch more when it is hit. Before you nix the aluminum you should find out what type of aluminum it is made from. I am in the process of making a long travel 4 link (10 inch lift) for the front of my 1999 CTD 2500 Ram. 7075 Hex stock. Cheap thin aluminum is just that. So is cheap thin steel. GL.
