Hello all!
I just acquired my truck this week, joined TDR and so far have found a lot of good useful info. Today I installed a pyro and boost guage. I am good with mechanics and have spent a LOT of time working on my own gasoline vehichles, but I have to admit that I am somewhat of a novice when it comes to working on diesels.
The previous owner had made some pretty scary tweaks to the fuel pump, uncluding putting the spring on the wrong side of the diaphram (I'm guessing to make it smoke as much as possible). I have adjusted the wheel under the top cover and the max power screw as to get it about where I think it should be, and the truck seems to be running good, but still smokes quite a bit. I am wondering what if any general guidelines I should follow for "tuning" the motor. It is stock as far as I can tell, with 111k on the odometer, except for the fact that it has dual 5" stacks connected to a 4" exhaust. The downpipe appears stock.
Thanks for the help, and so far I'm loving my truck (that I spent over four years looking for the right one).
