Ive been remote starting my 2 CTDS for 6 yrs now with the block heater plugged in,never a problem. Besides where is enough air going to come from in these systems unless your low on coolant or revving it to 4000RPM to cavitaite it a little. I also start my big Detroit diesel loader like this, and my Ford tractor. I guess i ve been lucky.

Of Block Heater questions, would an Espar Heater solve your problems? although living in Northen California I intend to install that heater for Cab comfort. Why complicate life? Scrum Down

I would not park the truck for a month and leave it plugged in, it will make a HUGE difference in the electric bill Don't ask how I know.

The thing to remember guys, is this is the same type element used in your water heater - most of us don't unplug the water heater very often, it does not hurt to leave them plugged in.

We use the same elements in generators. we do not disconnect them when running. The temp sensor on them will disconnect them auto-magically when the temp limit is reached, though I don't know what that limit is, ya can look it up.

If you're concerned about your electrical bill (not a bad thing) put it on a timer. I plug mine in when I get home from work and unplug it when I go back out, and the time can vary between 13 to 5 hours with no problems.

Snowman, yes I was talking about big rigs. It is a habit I can't break. Like I said, it must be the lower wattage. If you are getting away with it, don't worry about it. Your loader with the Detroit must be a 2-stroke. Those element heaters are low in the block anyways. Besides, this cold will be over before long and we will all be messing with A/C. Mike.
