What should I do?

triumphant return of the procrastinator extrordinaire!!!

This thread is gonna make me do it. I'll have to loose what a B5. 9 cylinder head weighs to be the average here.

I'm 34 and was always "heavy", never under 200# since I can remember. In the last couple years, my metabolism is really slowing- I just cannot do what I used to do, and I still do it. I feel myself slowing down and I don't like it, but the BBQ makes me loose control! It's my vice and it's gotta be worse than most addictions! I know, I'll start by tossing this here Pepsi!

I'm 6'4" and was at one time 245 then I quit smoking and almost instantly went to 325. I now hover around 285-295 all the time. It seems as if something changed inside me and I can't get back down to the 245. Been smoke free for 6 years now.....

Well @ 5'8" I could expect to be below average..... But @ 206 (down from the lifting days) no where but the Gym would that be considered average. I guess not even here..... Cause here it's below average... Dang you guys are a bunch of Big MF ers aren't cha.   :--)

6'1" and 208 pounds. I was 245 pounds a year ago, but have been on the Atkins diet for a year next month.

I am in 3 or 4 times better physical condition than I was a year ago. At 51 years old I was working as a logger and now at 67 I feel like I could go get a logging job and handle it.

Atkin's is a helluva diet for meat and potatoes guys but I have been tinkering with hormone replacements also. Started using DHEA in October and it has made a drastic improvement in mood, muscle mass, flexability and aerobic ability.

Did any body else try Atkin's?

6. 0 at 215. I work out every morning, My bench press is up to the mid 300's. I at the age of 34 am stronger than when I was in my young twenties. I work out because I have to. My blood pressure will go through the roof if I let off. I now eat what ever I want and am building some good muscle and staying healthy.

Power Lifters Usually hit their best lifts in there 30's, My old workout partner, pushed his best @ 42 I think it was, well he was over 40 anyway... 630 lbs... .  (yeah in the bench)

I remember the first time he lifted over 550 working out with me... . He turns and looks and says watch me on this one... I said what am I gonna be able to do? Oh I can run to the phone and call for a Crane... See that's what good workout partners should be able to do... Instill confidence that no matter what, You are there for Your Partner... . :-laf :-laf

5'10" 265lbs I hope to be down to around 200lbs in a year.

Wyo Jim I did Aktins a few years ago, I lost 40lbs in 4 months. I plan on doing it again, I just have to watch my blood sugar as I am a diabetic. What is DHEA? sound s good.

Karl... My son is a type 1 diebetic and manages his sugar better on Atkins than any other diet.

Your weight indicates you are a Type II which Atkins might cure completely, but you still have to watch it.

Insulin is what manages glucose which is what carbohydrates are turned into. What isn't burned up for energy is turned into tryglicerides and stored as fat by insulin.

DHEA is a precurser hormone in that it is used to make a lot of your bodies natural hormones including testosterone. A mans production of DHEA peaks at about 30 years old and by the time he is 70 he is making only about 10% of his peak.

All this is from what I read and guys under 50 usually are still making enough hormones.

I wonder if Rancho could make a commercial out of a guy like me - you know - like those mattresses they advertise with different firmness settings for each side of the bed?

"Guys, you can drive around with the left side set on level 5 for your big butts, and your wife can have the soft, level 3 ride she deserves!"

Oh, and I could take the crossover tube out so the air lift on the drivers side could level me off again!

Accessories are great, aren't they?:D

I love my job but it involves no physical effort. Then again neither does sitting at the 'puter for 2 hours a day.

I did the Atkins when I dropped 40lbs in 45 days. I made sure I worked out so I did not lose all of my muscle. I like Adkins, it is fast and you feel good and from what I have read it is good for you. Now I mostly count calories and continue to workout (I'm a gym rat). I have lifted since I was 21 years old (over 30 years) and I have never missed more than 3 weeks in the past 30 years. Keeps me mellow. They need to come up with hormone replacement for the guys like they do the girls. I can tell a big difference lifting at 53 then when I was at my prime at 32 :( When I was in business I alway liked to hire guys that worked out a lot. Found that they were hard workers and knew how to manage their stress.

Well lets just say some are built for comfort and some are built for speed. :D 6'3" and 285.

God bless my 5'0" and 107 beautiful wife. :D
