Competition how would this stack up against the competition

Joe,

Mitchell's street clutch has a cast flywheel-the comp version uses steel and has for some time.

That may be the price difference right there.



From what I saw this year, the trucks right behind Kent are mostly Mitchell trucks. Perhaps "toughest trucks use Hasilys" is a bit vague?



I haven't seen any of the top 10-20 trucks have clutch issues though.



I know of about 6 trucks that THOUGHT they were going to be in the top 20, and elected NOT to use a Mitchell or Haisly clutch... ... ... Not sure if they ever made 300 feet all year?

Jdailey and sled puller, that's what i was asking, the haisley clutch with the steel fly wheel is $2000, and the mitchell clutch with the steel flywheel is $2600. i know the mitchell's pretty well and know of a bunch of people that are running their clutch. but i don't know of that many people running the haisley clutch. if you are gonna spend that kinda cash on a clutch, you want to get the most for the money. nick

I didn't realize that Mitchell had finally figured out that cast was ignorant. But they still use in their street puller?? Huh. Anyways Gene... yea the toughest(meaning on top) this year were running Haisley clutches. Open and street. Kinda like it was last year with Mitchell's clutches, right? you are definatly right about the guinea pigs who went with answer C! Did you mean one 300' pull or 300' when you add them all together?? Overpriced is an understatment... geez. When we build another open class truck it won't have either. And I'll have half of that money to spend on something else!

Clutches

First off. Where do you think a custom double disc flywheel pressure plate should be priced?? Try the price on a multi disc Crower slipper clutch.

If the price of a quality clutch that allows you to compete at the highest level in your area is two high I have two replys.



1. Build your own



2. Quit pulling.



My observations are, Pulling is not a cheap sport, there will always be a better product beating the driver-owner that has trouble reading the track or with weight or chassies setup.



If a puller blames all of the poor placeings on equipment he or she should look for another sport or sit in the stands.



Pulling should be FUN!! There can be just as much enjoyment in just being there as there is in winning if you have your head on right.



The simple act of trying to help others pulling against you and trying to put on a GREAT show is quite a reward in itself.



The guy with the most money invested in his rig seldom has the most FUN!!!!!!!

Craig-you are right, if I could sell them for 5 bills I'd be rich! Actually I've got a used 3 disc crower and an sfi can I got for $1000.

I am glad to hear it. The guys that consider a 2nd or 3rd place in a class of 10 to 20 are missing the point. Unless they are selling parts it should make very little difference. I have found as I get older I realize time is something we all have two little of.

I lost a great friend and puller buddy of mine this summer and that loss made me reavaluate how much I enjoy life and pulling. Wish I would have learned this lesson MUCH earlier in life.



All of this does not mean I am satisfied with less than 1st or 2nd, I will always try my hardest to be at the top of my class.

thanks to all who replied to my question. i was not questioning the cost of the clutch. just asking if one was better than the other from people who have owned them or if they were about the same quality. i know that you are not going to be able to buy a clutch that is going to last forever. and i don't have a problem writing the check. just want to be sure that it is money well spent. and i also care about winning and losing. Who wants to come in 2nd? not me i want to be the winner, no matter what the cost. that's just me though, later and thanks, nick

If I pull early in the class, I always go back around and tell the guys waiting what the tracks like, especially if they are new. (except JDaily,lol)



I have always had a problem with performance vendors gouging us, just for the simple fact, that they figure we can afford it.



I have no problem with people making money. Up to 50 % mark up, I can deal with, from there on it is gouging.

I would love to organize a strike of Diesel Performance parts buyers for a few months, that would drop the price!!LOL

SFI Approved Flywheels

I would like give some of you unfamiliar with our clutches information that may clear up some questions. Thanks, Patty



The following multi disc clutches that we build have SFI billet steel flywheels by McLeod Industries... . The McLeod Street Twin, The HMR Street Drag, The HMR Street Puller and the HMR Comp Puller.



The Street Puller is very driveable, it has a diaphragm pressure plate w/iron discs. (This is what Van has in his 2001 dually)



The Comp Puller can be used on the street, and some do, but has counterweights and shifting is a bit different, but it was not designed to be used in a daily driver.



Our new pulling truck will have a new clutch altogether w/SFI can. Van just has to have time to finish it! Should be out of the corner this spring!

Is that clutch assembly going to need some testing, or will it be available to the pullers by spring?

Van, thanks for the reply. glad that you have come aboard. i have a friend that ordered your clutch from schied's diesel. i hope that it pulls for a long time. i have senn you and curt abuse your clutches at schied's extravaganza this year. they were impressive. and the fact that schied's pulling truck uses your clutch. that says a lot. hope to see ya'll a lot next year. nick. what kind of warranty do you have on the pulling clutch?
