Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) hydraulic upgrade

Is this really needed right away if you are putting a new performance clutch in the truck. I'm asking this because the supplier is suggesting getting one but we are just in need of a clutch to hold for a dyno event in two weeks. The upgrade is 250 bucks and I can't see spending that right now. If it is really bad, I'm sure the customer would install it when he gets the money but I don't know what to do. What would it do on a stock system would it just be hard to press the pdeal in or what?

i never did the hyd upgrade and mine all worked fine i have ran 12 south bend twin disk comp pulling clutches in my pulling trucks only thing is the were weighted clutches so when i would reach 3k rpm the truck would start moving with pedel pushed all the way in but with it out it never slipped that was on an 01 6speed that dynoed at 1486rwtq then in my 02 6speed i had a twin disk south bend drag comp clutch and i didnt do the upgrade and it seamed to be just fine but i had gotten used to the pedel when my gf drove my trucks she had to use both feet to take off then she would clutchless shift of corse i made her stop cause i was told that was bad on them so its all in how you drive and what clutch you use

If the truck is equipped with the G56 transmission, you will need the hydraulics. Other then that, you might be fine depending on the clutch of choice.

I was told to upgrade hydraulics when I upgraded my 5 speed clutch and again with my 6 speed clutch. Never did in either case, my stock hydraulics with 230k on them are still holding a S. B. ConFe in my 6 speed rated at 550hp/1100tq. No leaks, no issues. my $. 02

Peter, I spoke to Luis@El Maestro Transmission in Placentia,Ca. He has done 12 G-56 SBC conversions but claims to have never upgraded the hydraulics. This seemed odd but that's his statement. Installation price was $700. 00 which seemed pretty steep. I assume that did not include hydraulic upgrade labor. I'm down here in San Diego,92117 and he appears to be the closest distributor/installer to me. I wouldn't do the job without hydraulics and probably a Fluidamper to help quiet everything down.

interesting, so its only the G56 that needs the hydraulic upgrades? what about double disk clutches in nv5600/nv4500?
