I installed my newly rebuilt p-pump today and when I fired the engine up the idle was WAY high, like 1600. In the process of adjusting the idle screw it became apparant that the throttle rod was about 1/4 inch too short:eek: The ball on the throttle arm of the pump was installed in the bottom hole. Moving the rod to the upper hole was a match so I put the ball there. Before I call Austin Injector tomorrow to give them h***, would someone confirm for me that I installed the ball in the corect hole? Thanks.

Mine's a 1996 manual. The linkage goes to a triangular plate with softened corners, and fits to the lower hole. The upper hole goes to a spring, probably a return spring of some kind.

Cheers

Both of the P7100 I looked at have a series of interconnected holes (at the rear of the pump) that the rod is attached to. One is about in the middle, the other is most of the way towards the back.

At the front of the pump the lever has a ball post that doesn't give mounting options.

Long story short, put the throttle rod in the hole that works on your truck.

here is a picture of the linkage on my pump. I have a lot better quality pictures but TDR has a weak interface and I had to shrink the picture so much it is a little difficult to see. If ou want better pictures PM me with an email address and I will send them to you.

Here is mine. The ball was mounted lower where the paint is worn away. I am a complete novice here. Would a p-pump rebuild change the position of the lever that much? Should I install it a couple holes forward like LVJUNIOR?

seems like a reasonable question/conclusion. I may just be typin' outta my arse, but, I half suspect that they (Bosch/Cummins) left so many stops in that slot so that any number of fuel-control linkage choices would be applicable. Dodge/manual here, Dodge/automatic there, F-550, at this one, Winnebago down here, and all result in the same amount of pedal travel/rack travel.

Pick the one that seems to behave the best, tighten it down, and call it a day. :)

Mechanical Cummins/manual transmission... simple works good, so go work simple!

I was shooting blind, but maybe these images are useful. They came from my 97/auto which had throttle cable recall done.

Wish someone would clean my greasy engine for me...

More images from the 94 Ram factory repair manual a friend gave me.

Hope this helps. There is info on installing linkage and cable for the various recalls too.

Thanks guys. I'm going to reposition mine to the slotted hole like LVJUNIOR's. Until I took that picture I wasn't aware they were there, I thought there was just two holes-top and bottom:eek: Those pages from the fsm are the same as the ones for my '97. I find it interesting that there isn't a nominal length shown for the rod itself. That 5 inch thing is kinda goofy.
