Okay, first I'll admit I am a newbie to a diesel truck ownership. Dad owned them when I was a teenager but never paid much attention to this. Actually didn't think much of it until a passenger with me said it was odd. Of course then the devil starts playing with your mind and throwing all those "what ifs" to you.

When I shut down my Massey Ferguson diesel tractor it stops almost immediately after the ignition key is turned off. Conversely, my 2014 RAM CTD slows down after the ignition switch is turned off and shakes pretty bad. Sometimes it is more quickly than others but it has never stopped as fast as that tractor. Yes, I know. The RAM is not a tractor. :D It's maybe more noticeable since I have a manual transmission and the shift lever moves back and forth like crazy as the engine slows down. Frankly it's made me wonder if an engine mount is bad or whether this phenomenon might lead to an engine mount failure.

Anyone out there understand what I am describing and is it nothing to be worried about? The truck has 78,000 miles on it. Has been this way since I bought it at 75,500 miles.

Thanks,
Jeff

P.S. If it would help I could try to upload a short video of it.

These diesel mounts are heavy duty not like auto mounts so it takes a lot to move them
It would be best to put your truck on a lift to check them

Don't worry about it. I owned 6 Semis and they rattled and shook when shutting down. Go to a dealer if it bugs you and see if they have a manual transmission truck . Fire it up see if it happens when you shut it down.

That's what I needed... some reassurance from the voice of experience. Thank you!

Shift stick has moved around in every manual transmission that I've had in tbe past 33 years.

It moves a little more when the Cummins gets the shut down shudders. Had a 71 MG BGT that would diesel after shut down until I dumped the clutch. The 2013 Cummins does the same for a few seconds, but I don't have to dump the clutch...... it will die when all the fuel is burned off.

It shakes less after putting fuel additives (during shutdown).

I have owned three Cummins Rams, 2 autos and one stick. The videos look completely normal to me. Although I am sure motor mounts have failed it doesn't happen very often.
