Anybody opened the wastegate on the SPS66 up to 55 or 60psi with stock head bolts and gasket?? I am considering 55psi to help keep EGTs down at the track. With decent 4wd launch and lockup tc as soon as hits 2 gear it get 1600 in 3rd gear easy. I don't know how much higher it will get, been too chicken to turn off defueling altogether. The boost gauge is vibrating at 50psi after shifts and spool back up, think I need more air. I know there is more air, just really don't want to blow a gasket yet. I want studs, just running low on capital(its all going in the tank :{ ).

I hear ya on the temps J. Volpe mine will hit 1600 no problem @50-55lbs boost, TST on 7,7. I have recorded 56. 5 on the spa guage.

Man, thats some serious boost, and still hot egt? Do you think it is because of the low rail pressure not atomizing the fuel good enough?

50 psi shoud cool arounf 500-550hp, right?

Tomeygun,

I never had a problem with EGTs with HOT Juice on 5/5 and EZ on 3. EGTs stayed under 1300 at the track. With the TST(twins) 6/5 and EZ on 2 I hit 1550 in every gear. Upped the TST defueling to 1600 and still hit 1600 in 3rd gear early. Unplugged the EZ downloaded the Triple Dog Crazy Larry. Crazy Larry and TST on 4/2 was as high as I could run without setting Fuel Pressure code P0088 and still getting to 1600*. Boost would always get to 50psi(wastegate). Ran out of playing time at the track, it got late and staging lines too long. I have since played with BDDL Performance program and TST 6/6 and like what it feels like, no codes, but will still hit 1600 in second gear if I lock the TC. I guess that studs and nitrous are in my future.

I guess that the TST (twins) is fueling pretty heavy and maybe really needs twins to do the job. But I will fiddle as much as possible with the SPS66 to see what I can get out of a single. I was about 500rwhp with the Edge combo, maybe a little over. Dont know where the TST and combos have me, but if I could keep it cooler there is much more power available.

I think what is happening is that the TST is stretching the pulse SOOO long, that you are loosing rail pressure, And the twins program just makes it worse.

I made 75hp less on higher setting with my truck, BUT way more smoke - I thought higher boost was the key, Nope. Still hot EGT and low power, Then hooked up a DRB to check rail PSI - like 12000 psi when on 9/9 - But maintained like 21000 when on 7/7 , So 7/7 made more hp and felt better.

I think a CP3 mod is the only way you will get more HP when maybe 550-600 (the 600 I think with twins)

Have you had a chance to monitor Rail PSI?

No I have not monitored rail pressure, I dont have access to DRBIII or other rail pressure monitoring equipment right now. I agree that is probably a factor in all of this. Mark at TST told me basically the same thing that they saw. I am looking for what I can get that will monitor fuel rail pressure accurately. That would make tuning to optimal a lot easier than my trial and ERROR method currently in use.

I am not sure what other ways to monitor rail pressure, the SPA gauges thing? But it seems like alot of work... .

To monitor rail pressure all you need is a good quality digital volt meter.

Connect pos to the center wire on the rail pressure sensor and neg. to ground.

If someone doesn't post the chart of voltage = pressure, I will edit this post and post it once I dig it up.

Edit-

0 psi = . 50 volts

5801 psi = 1. 39 volts

10153 psi = 2. 06 volts

14504 psi = 2. 72 volts

20305 psi = 3. 61 volts

23206 psi = 4. 06 volts

26107 psi = 4. 50 volts

26700 psi = 4. 56 volts

26700 is the max you can accurately view because that is the point the OE transducer gets saturated so even though it has a supply voltage of 5v the pressure calculations from 4. 57v to 5. 0v become questionable.

Great, you should be able to just run some longer cables through the window and set it in the truck. Using Min/Max function on the fluke is not a good idea because it will capture spikes making you think you have achieved a high pressure when the average is lower so you will have to actually "look" at the meter at the moment you are suspecting low pressure.

Thanks, I will be digging into my bins of wiring. Think I have some extra long probes used for some off the wall thing a few years back that should work ok.

I'll hopefully have my 64 here any day now. 66 works great on top but a little too slow for me. I want something that hits hard in the middle even if I have to give up a little on top. Now if I had some money to blow I would get one of Don's cams and some springs along with a Redline box and maybe it would run out better on top and that 66 would be ok :)

RE: Phat Shaft 64

Just wanted to say your turbo looks to be ready to ship. Our vendor that does our polishing has been dragging a bit but we look good to ship today. Our Phat Shaft 64 is a good turbo for 2nd gen trucks. It incorporates all of the good things that we have done on the Super 66 but smaller. It has good spool up and still gives low back pressure (drive pressure). Comp. surging has not been an issue and testing has been done on 2nd gen trucks. This is a good choice for 2nd gen trucks that want more everyday driveability and still are looking for horse power. Thanks 1-800-955-0476

RE: Phat Shaft Turbos

Yes we always allow our customers to upgrade at a very reasonable price. We always want to help in any way we can. We do have to run a business though. If we can help in any way call us. Thanks 1-800-955-0476
