I installed the 3200 RPM governor spring and the truck runs great but I have noticed some strange changes. I now have less diesel clatter at idle and less noise overall. It has a much stronger pull all the way up to 3200 RPM but it is much quieter? Is this normal? The strong clatter I had at 2200 RPM before seems to have gone away now also. Could this have been a lean condition when it started to defuel? I do have to learn my shift points all over again now though as I can shift at a much higher rpm without running out of rpm. I did adjust my high idle back down to factory settings, should I adjust it back up or leave it alone? I was afraid I would over-rev it with the new spring?

Set your idle screw where it needs to be to get the 700-800 range, be it factory or otherwise.

The reason it pulls stronger is because the governor lever pulls harder on the (for lack of a better term, my memory is sorta fuzzy) spillport asembly, giving it more fuel faster with the same throttle shaft travel. Not sure what to tell you on the clatter disappearance, other than it is not bad. THose of you that have had more experience with the innards of the VE, correct my terminology for him, please.

Also, you dont HAVE to relearn your shift points- you can still shift at lower RPMs to conserve fuel and your drivetrain, you just have more reserve RPMs for Colorado interstate acceleration ramps (2--80 in under a 1/4mi), or smoking that V8 diesel, pulling up a hill with a heavy load, etc.

I understand the low idle. I was talking about the full throttle stop. Should I leave it at factory settings or screw it out to give it more throttle travel? I had it out to allow for more travel but I set it back as I thought it might over-rev if I didn't.

Most of us just leave the high idle screw in our gloveboxes, even with the 3200 rpm screw. I find that with an auto transmission a properly adjusted kick down cable limits full throttle travel at this point anyway.

Well I have a standard but I think I will play around with it a little in the morning. I seem to have a little less full throttle power now so I will adjust it a little more in the morning.
